What do I do now?

I have completed all parts of the West Point application process about 2 weeks ago, I passed the DoDMERB and everything is approved (submitted CFA scores, I haven't heard back from anyone if they're passing), I got nominated strangely by both my congressman and senator. So...what happens next? I haven't heard anything from West Point, I don't know what 3Q is, and I don't know if they're going to mail me anything. Do you?

You are set! From the past class profiles you have a 50/50 chance of getting in. 3Q means that you are triple qualified: medically (DoDMERB) , academically, and physically. 3Q and a nomination gives you a decent chance of getting in. Some appointments have already came out for the class of 2022. However the first big wave of BFEs are in mid-january (2 Weeks). Good Luck and hope to see you soon! I plan on being a prospective cadet for the class of 2023 :)

Thanks Alex for taking the time to break it down. What is "BFE"? I've seen it a few times in this forum. Is that a pet name for a "big fat envelope" maybe? Meaning an offer of acceptance?

Yep..

BFE = Big Fat Envelope (Contains the Offer of Appointment. It is hoped for, by all.)
TWE = Thin White Envelope (Contains the "Although you had a great application, you are not being offered an appointment" verbiage. It is dreaded by all.)

Thank you! How do I know if I am 'officially' 3Q'd, or do the Academies never say?

On your homepage under official correspondence will be a PDF that says "Candidate File Qualified"

How large is the first wave of appointments in Mid-January. I am still waiting on my MOC's interview which is scheduled for January 6. I have an LOE and was told by an admissions that he would likely be seeing me this summer on R-Day so is it possible with this late interview date that I may still be in the first wave?

The waiting for something to happen is one of the hardest parts of this process. There are those who have complete applications in, nom(s) in hand, are fully qualified...and won’t hear until April - and it could be disappointing news.

There’s no way of knowing where in the pipeline your application is. You still need a nom, apparently. Focus on what you can control now, such as preparing for your MOC interview, finishing the academic year strong, ensuring your Plan B is lined up. It’s good that you have an LOE, but it’s not an LOA. Try to set aside what you heard from Admissions as “nice to hear but I have got things to do” and take this one step at a time.

Keep us posted - this is a supportive community who hopes everyone gets the BFE or a shiny new path opens up.

About that 3Q...

You won't always get the "Candidate File Qualified" mail. My RC chose to email me instead. His way of letting us know we're all set is different from some of the other RCs, who send the official West Point correspondence.

My LOA is also not in my portal, but that doesn't matter because USMA Admissions has other ways to keep track of those things (I don't know how they do it, but they definitely have a different view of our portals than we do. They can also see our individual WCS numbers, which we'll never know...)

We have reached waiting time. To answer your question, what you do now is get yourself into outstanding physical shape (you know, in case you have to do that Beast Barracks thing), keep your grades up (my RC told us a story about a kid who started failing his last semester and got his offer rescinded. Don't let that be you), and spend lots of time with your family. You don't want to wish you could change anything you did when you report to whatever college you wind up going to! Take it from someone who lives at her high school: West Point or not, your family will miss you!

This is that time of year now where the waiting becomes most difficult. Sending up a few prayers for all.
