What does it mean by the year?

For question in the requested tab of the application portal that says, "Have you ever been a candidate for the USMMA?", for when I answer yes to it, what do they mean by the year? Is it year of applying or year of the class I was trying to apply to?

I have not seen this year's application, but my guess would be that you should put the year you applied rather than the class you applied for. They will look up your application from that year and see how close you were to an appointment and what comments were made. For re-applicants, they put a lot of weight on your essay portion of your application looking for emotional growth and maturity in how you dealt with rejection. I am glad to see that you are re-applying. Good luck this round!
