I’m wondering what happens after parents drop off their soon to be cadets on I-Day. What does the day include. Things like getting yelled at, getting uniforms, haircuts, paperwork review medical/medical documents review, swearing in etc etc. I’m wondering from those who know or have been through the day what happens first, what happens last and at what time. Are meals together on I-Day? I am wondering how the swearing in happens on I Day. I know there is a “ceremonial” swearing in on day two.
Thanks

For Candidates/soon-to-be incoming Cadets - hopefully through this process you reached out to other Cadets - former students at your school, through parents (ie through the parent clubs) as a resource to connect you with other Cadets, and from your own research. Search youtube and you will easily see Class of 2025 and 2026 I-Day videos, and even without a login, search Webguy and you can read the blogs from past years even though you cannot access the pictures.

For parents, the videos and past webguy photos are exactly what you will see this summer. Every part of BCT I have loads of pictures. For I-day I found DD at drop off, picking up class book, lining up for the bus, the iconic Get Off My Bus! photo, footprints and "Cadre treatment", running up the ramp, swearing in, hairstyle. Through BCT everything from all sections of Jacks Valley, uniform issue, marching, training in/outdoors, Blue Rush Day, Doolie Day out...you name it. Parents, you have 48 hours to clear your calendar and get ready for a summer of Webguy surfing! Welcome to the club!

Word of advice. Brings a binocular. You'll need it. Have fun on I-Day and welcome to the Long Blue Line family!

Adding on. Have them wear a noticeable shirt. My red Hawaiian shirt from prep school makes it really easy to spot me in photos. A cyan blue or other light colors work wonderful

Search YouTube for USAFA I Day. Several good videos to give you insight into the first day.

All of those things will happen. The order will depend on the squadron. I Day is fast and furious. Every day gets easier after that (for the most part).

And yes to the big box, rolling suitcase, pink sliders, and/or a relative’s USAFA tee. I mean, go big or go home. My favorite last year was the cheeky shirt worn by the BCT cadet commander’s little brother!

Try to have your appointee eat a decent breakfast, despite the nerves. My DS started around 10am and didn't get lunch (brown bag) until about 4pm. Then dinner was at 530 or 6 😂 it will start with paperwork review, medical with blood draw, introduction by commandant, 1st swearing in (is repeated the next day for parents), bus ride, footprints, hair cuts, uniforms and other issued supplies, and of course marching and studying contrails, all while being yelled at. 😂 I'm sure there's more. They typically get a 10 minute phone call that 1st night. There was lots of noise in the background because everyone is on the phone at the same time.
