Regrettably cadets don't play sports at the Naval Academy.
Unless things have changed, intramurals are typically open to all-comers. IOW, they're all "easy to get into."
Most mids continue to play sports they played in h.s. but aren't good enough to play (or don't want to commit the time to play) at a varsity/club level at USNA. Others try a new sport for the first time. Intramurals are competitive (with tournaments and the like) but, if you're not a star, trying your best is usually good enough.
Intramurals in general are a joke. Most people just don't go because they are a waste of time and they'd prefer to actually go exercise. Disappointing, I know, but that's the truth.
Interesting. Guess things have changed a bit since my day.
There is no intramural baseball. The skydiving team is an ECA and does not count as a sport. Intramurals in general are a joke. Most people just don't go because they are a waste of time and they'd prefer to actually go exercise. Disappointing, I know, but that's the truth.
You learn something new on this forum. I didn't realize intramural sports at Navy was optional. When I was at West Point, mandatory participation in intramural sports, one per semester unless excused for Varsity or Club sports.
