What to Bring as an Incoming Freshman...

Doolie Day In/ out

what do the cadets do on doolie day In other than the obvious "use their cell phones"?
Also, i see that doolie day Out is in August on the 13th after the first day of classes, will cadets get the chance to call home after bct is over before classes start? (DH is upset because he will be out of town on his annual golf weekend with limited to almost no cell phone coverage on doolie day out.)
Why the change from doolie day Out to doolie day In during basic the last couple of years?

Also, thanks for the info on the sunscreen - i was also worried about that as ds is very fair!

It just used to be Doolie Day out but a couple of years ago because of the swine flu that hit the hill they had a dooie day in . Last year I believe was the first year they had both doolie day in and out and out was on the 6th of august if I remember correctly( a saturday). Doolie day in is really a day that the basics get a rest hang out around arnold hall and have all afternoon to eat, call and talk to parents, girl friends etc; before they march out to Jacks. Doolie day out the cadets ( and I say cadets) because it is after A day will be picked up by their sponsor parents and spend the day relaxing and eating and calling parents but in their sponsor parents home. The sponsor parents help the cadets alot and are very very appreciated. They take to the airport sometimes they store things for them stuff like that stuff that you would do if you were there. Hope this helps :)

Sorry for another compression shorts question. How many should my DD bring? Can they rinse them out at night? Inseam for females less than 5 inches?

i just ordered 4 from footlocker -nike in white. they had a "2 for" deal going on.

i got four pairs of white under armour from marshalls at half price so check around...

Can't remember if I asked this, but for the chem/calc placement exams, on a scale of 1-10 how difficult are they for someone who took APs in both subjects? Should we bring a couple review packets or anything?

I doubt you'll be allowed to keep/ever have time to look at review packets during basic. So if you want to, look at it before basic. That being said, I dunno how necessary that'll be.

Also, I completely forgot about this, but I remember getting a letter from the math dept. about placement, and I think my mom threw it away...does anyone who still has the letter want to be nice enough to either scan it for me or summarize it/remind me what it said? I feel like it might've said to send college transcripts, and since I took calc II + a proofs class, it would probably be to my advantage to get credit if I can.

I had a 4 on my AP chem test, and was able to place into the advanced chem class. That said, I really struggled in that class (pulled my grade UP to a C- on the final!)

I had a good AP Calc AB teacher (who also taught most of BC). I placed into Calc III, which would have a been a good choice. I went to Calc II, because I hadn't seen everything on the syllabus. Unfortunately, I didn't learn much in that class (also a combo with a poor instructor).

If you can get a 5 on the AP test, you should be able to get into advanced classes at USAFA, which will make your life easier later on.

reception?

I was just wondering what cell phone companies' reception works the best at USAFA, once we are allowed to use them once again. My family is in the middle of a company switch and wanted to put USAFA into the equation. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

I have AT&T, though I'm not a cadet, so I haven't been everywhere on te campus. It works quite well everytime I'm down there wherever I am.

We have had AT&T for the entire 4 years that our son was at USAFA and he has never had a problem with reception anywhere in the area, including both dorms. In fact, while he was cadre for CST, he was the only one with reception in the training location.

Everything I hear is AT&T I believe you would get or there used to be a discount with AT&T on the hill. Some one may correct me but I seem to remember that.

For carrying all my stuff, I figured I'd just throw everything in a backpack and call it a day. But since I'm flying out there, I can't bring stuff like shampoo/soap in a carry-on. Anyone else run into this problem? I really would like to just have the backpack, but I don't know how to handle the liquids... check my backpack?

just bring carry on size liquids for now. you will be given time during basic to visit the c-store and purchase all the toiletries and other supplies you need.....

I just checked my bag.

You can carry-on liquids as long as they are in the original container and are no more than 3.4 oz. (100 ml). All of the containers of liquid must then be sealed in a quart-size plastic bag. When you go through security screening, remove the plastic bag from your carry-on and put it in an examination bin. There will be no problem taking them on the plane.

Our cadet (now 2d Lt.) actually just did what Buffalo suggested and just checked his backpack as luggage.
