There's a big discussion in our house about what to wear while traveling to USNASS - are jeans and a collared shirt okay or should they men wear dockers?

Anything is fine. You will be changing into newly-issued PT gear as soon as you arrive anyway. You won't be wearing any of the clothes you bring during the week (with the exception of underwear, socks, and shoes).

I would recommend jeans, a polo-like shirt, with a nice pair of shoes. Tuck your shirt in before you walk into Dahlgren for check-in.

Thanks! I won't say who one, but it wasn't the mom.

I think my DS wore a t shirt and shorts to check in. He had a red eye flight to get to BWI on time so that was fine.

Another point of view -- and I don't consider myself a fashion expert by any means. I've gotten to a point in life where I really don't care about fashion or what people think about what I wear (perhaps I never did care). I take 2 things into consideration - what is appropriate for the occasion, and what is comfortable. Either jeans or khakis are appropriate --but Annapolis can be hot and sticky in the summer, and I hate wearing jeans in that type of weather. I would go with khakis !

Shorts would be fine. They'll immediately be changing anyway.

What would be best for a female to wear? Should I wear khakis or jeans and a polo too? I wore a dress shirt to CVW because my mom said I shouldn't wear khakis and a polo because I would look too much like a boy (I have short hair so sometimes people get confused). But I don't really want to wear a long sleeved dress shirt in Maryland in the summer. Should I wear a dress or something? I have a pair of shorts that I think might be good, but I don't know if they are too casual. They are dark blue with a flower pattern, and I typically wear them with a plain grey t-shirt. They look kind of like a skirt, and are a reasonable length.

For women, it really doesn’t matter, as long as you’re comfortable in the heat and humidity, and as long as it’s discreet. (Same would be true for men.) My DD said she changed into USNA gear pretty quickly, and there wasn’t time for anyone to care what she was wearing. Have fun...it’s a great experience.

My daughter flew out this morning. She wore shorts and a T-shirt. also one of the 2 pairs of running shoes recommended. Our goal was no checked luggage...allowing room for gear that will be provided. Thanks think we did it.

It's hot here in DC and prediction for Sat PM through Monday is rain. The rain just won't stop here!

Wait! That's what you DON'T want to do.

Good casual clothes will be fine, as mentioned above you will be wearing gear provided by USNA after you arrive. The only thing NOT to wear would be something like your JROTC uniform. Lots of older posts about that.
