I have ready MANY useful threads and have seen suggestions about what former Plebes wish they had brought on I-Day, what items detailers took and what items had to be mailed. Examples: undergarments, compression shorts, CALCULATOR, etc.... Wondering if anyone would help by posting more suggestions and if any items are taken, when will Plebe have items back.
Thanks to all!!!!!!
Make sure your plebe 2B takes their driver's license, phone charger, fully charges the phone the night before Iday, and turns off the phone before handing it in on Iday. The detailers will plug the phones in the night before phone calls home, but this way they are already prepared to call. That 30 minutes allowed for phone calls flies by- they are given an assigned time to call. DS last year wanted to call grandparents as well during his 30 minutes.
Also take a photocopied set of the forms in the PTR packet, especially the immunization records, just in case it is needed. Paperwork has occasionally gone astray when mailed. Last year during PPW, DS handed me the copied paperwork, his birth certificate, and his backpack and civilian clothes he had worn on Iday to bring home. Plebes are going to be hauling around bags and boxes of issued uniforms and supplies on Iday, so the less stuff from home the better. They will most likely be issued a water bottle- they were issued one last year. Mail a box of healthy snacks like protein bars and cough drops a day or two before you leave for I-day. Junk food and sugary/ candy items will be confiscated until the end of PS.
It's "not college" they won't need dorm decorations or cutesy stuffed animals/pillows. Enjoy the ride- plebe year will fly by.
