What's next after the phone call from the congressman?

My DD has received a phone call from the Congressman past Monday informing her about the appointment to USNA - she was beyond excited and plan on accepting!
But her application status on the candidate portal is still "Completed - Pending Review" and have not received any correspondence from the USNA.
I know it's been only 3 days but just wondering what is the general timeframe from the phone call to the next step, whether status updates on the portal, email from USNA or any physical mail correspondence.

Congratulations!
Typically USNA gives MOC's first dibs on informing the appointee with the portal updating and an email arriving within a week. For now, just sit and play the waiting game! Eventually your portal will update with an offer and the BFE coming who knows how long after that

P.S. if you don't mind indulging, who was she nominated by? I got Cruz and Weber (TX-14) so I'm keeping an eye out for fellow competitors on the slate.

My Congressperson called me on a Monday telling me I got an appointment to USNA, but it wasn’t officially in my portal until that Friday. No need to worry. Admissions will probably update it very soon.

Portal will update soon. Once it does, accept when ready. Mid-April they will release the Permit to Report. More paperwork. You can see last years in old threads about the police form, vaccinations, etc. Celebrate, take a deep breath, workout, stay out of trouble.

My DS is in the same position. Received congressional notification on Monday and waiting on the portal to update.
The MOC told him it would update on 2/14. I'm guessing it will update soon.

Thank you - will relay your advice on working out and staying out of trouble part to my DD!

Congratulations!

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but unless the MOC gave a principal nomination, an appointment is not guaranteed at this stage. This is just one hurdle to jump over. Next hurdle is that the candidate must be confirmed as 3Q. Then a major hurdle is competing against others on their respective slate who have a non-principal MOC nom and are 3Q, too. Congrats, but continue on with the plans B and C, just in case. My DD had a MOC nom in hand and was 3Q at this stage last year. Thankfully, she received an appointment to NAPS, which she accepted.

I think you are confusing nominations with appointments. An appointment is an offer of admissions. This is often communicated to candidates through the congressional nominating source, but there is a difference between nomination (which is not an offer of admission and does not guarantee admission) and appointment (which is an offer of admission). In the case cited above an appointment was extended and that would be a guarantee (outside of instances of injury, arrest, failing out of school) which might cause USNA to rescend the offer of appointment.

Yes, my mistake, the OP did write that the Congressman called to say the DD received an appointment, not a nomination, my oversight. Only one cup of coffee when I posted. Lesson learned.

I have a strict 2 cup minimum before engaging in anything...no emails, no posting, no texts, no meetings, no talk, etc. My family always waits to engage until that first shot is on board as I may appear to be slightly grumpy.

Funny story. I had identical twin boys who were nominated by Rep. Marsha Blackburn (now a senator) back in 2009. She called our house around noon on a school day asking to speak with one of my sons. I said that I was his father and that he was currently at school. Duh! She asked me to send him her congratulations on earning an appointment although we already knew he had received an appointment. 10 minutes later, she calls again, asking for my other son, clearly not realizing that she had just called our house. I told her that he was at school. She didn't recognize my voice. Again, she asks me to send her congratulations on earning an appointment. She never realized that they were twins, had the same last name and that she had just talked to me 10 minutes prior. She was absolutely clueless and was just going through the motions. I'm guessing an aide was probably dialing the phone and handing it to her.

Who calls on a school day at noon expecting to reach a high school student?

I am convinced that most congressmen and senators have very little to do with whom they nominate. It's all done by their staff. Perhaps I'm being cynical, but I cannot envision a senator reading recommendations, analyzing high school transcripts and comparing ACT scores. Most do not even attend the interview process.

Hi TexasApplicant - I’m in Texas District 14 and got a nomination for USNA from Weber as well. I also have nominations for USAFA from Cornyn & Weber. Still waiting on both. What high school do you go to? I’m at FHS.
