When does the second wave come out?

My son's portal updated Tues 3/3 that he was 3Q, Thurs 3/5 our Congressman called him at school that he was appointed!! Portal updated 3/7 I believe and BFE came yesterday 3/9. NY-22. Good luck everyone!!!

April 15th... that's so far away..
Wait, actually? That is almost unbearable...

Something about this doesn't sound right. Buff81 and 845something are pretty much insiders and they've said appointments continue to go out as the admissions board meets each week. If I understood them, the appointments dwindle as time passes. There is a "wave" of appointments per se when the USMAPS CC's get their appointments sometime later, but that's apples and oranges to most of the posters' status as high schoolers or re-apps. There was no late big "second wave" last year that I know of.

April 15th likely being the medical qualification deadline and initial offer acceptance deadline...there could be a "waive" at that time of the alternate picks (#2s behind those front runners who don't accept their offer in time or don't get medically qualified). Don't expect much. If there is already someone else appointed in that district, and the MOC didn't use numbered alternates, then admissions probably won't offer the number two. And they still have to fit in a waive of the USMAPS candidates. From here on out there will be the slow roll of weekly offers as admissions is able to resolve the vacancy winners (med qualifications/final DQ's come through, acceptances come through and the director is able to firm up the class composition, etc). Wish it was exciting like the first round of offers, but don't despair, there will be offers right up until the end before R-Day, and everyone who gets one won't care when it got there, just that they have one.

So at this point, do we believe the 150 from NWL have received appointments? Or, have those appointments come later historically?

I think that those 150 have already been accepted since admissions posted on their facebook page that over 400 people have been appointed.

Don't think, just wait. You have no idea if they are out or not.

My guess is yes; my son wasn't in the first wave, but heard not long after, so I assume he's in the 150.

I wasn't in the first wave but I received my appointment on February 28th. I received 5 nominations to West Point (two from my Representative, one from a Senator, Presidential, JROTC). My GPA is a 3.1 (no APs), 1880 SAT (super scored), Oregon Boys State (Hawaii doesn't have a boys state program so I flew up to Oregon with a buddy of mine from Hawaii), 1 varsity letter, 2nd LT/platoon leader in JROTC, 250 hours of community service. I'm guessing I was on the NWL.

To be honest I have no idea how they slotted me, as there were a lot it people from my district. No one knows except admissions. I honestly don't care how I got slotted because regardless I got accepted. If you don't have a denial letter than that means they still are looking at your file.

Why are people assuming that the 150 off the NWL have already been offered? West Point historically has around an 85% offer acceptance rate and we're currently at somewhere near 500 out of 1200-1400 total. That doesn't seem to me like admissions is anywhere near having to consider the NWL applicants. I may be wrong so take this with a grain of salt but don't lose hope and don't freak out thinking that the admissions cycle has already passed you over. Appointments have consistently come out in later months for years past and we have no reason to think that this year will be any different.

There are 535 MOCs. Those were first wave. LOAs were first wave or before. Who do you think is next, USMA-ga12? I think the top 150 have gone out.

Did anybody read this post by 845something?

The "second wave" is a myth!! You'll find out if you got in when they tell you (between now and R-Day).

We had a few TWE notices go up but no BFE's last week. My "bet" is that they cleaned house and we'll probably see the trickle this week.
