As the title implies, when should I start trying to become medically qualified? After a nomination source or before it?

I believe that the academy you are applying to will decide for you. DS applied to West Point. When his application was complete and they felt he was a competitive candidate they opened up that part of the process and mailed the DoDMERB paperwork.

I agree with turtle. USAFA is the same way as WP. They will request the exam when they deem you competitive. Some will be offered it before they get a nomination, some will be after they get the nomination.

Right now what you should do regarding the exam is get all of your medical paperwork in order if you believe you have a medical issue. IE vision, multiple concussions, allergies, asthma, long term prescriptions, etc.
