Where do cadets find out about being appointed and when will these start for
those that are 3q and have nomination.

,Or, you or your DS/DD might get a call from your MOC.
Arent Congressman given 72 hours to notify the candidate before the BFE arrives/the portal is updated?Yes, you can get an appointment without any sort of prior notification or encouragement. Also, the purple box on the portal may show up or the BFE may arrive at your house or your Congressman might call--there is no set order or mechanism through which candidates are notified of their appointment.

Just a quick "sidenote". Being 3Q with a Nom does not guarantee appointment, it qualifies one to be offered an appointment. The only real givens are if you have an LOA, are 3Q, and get a Principle Nomination. In that case USMA is supposed to offer the appointment by law (10 USC). Having an LOA by itself does not guarantee an appointment, being 3Q by itself does not guarantee an appointment, and having a Nom by itself does not guarantee an appointment. Even being 3Q with a Nom (non principle) does not guarantee an appointment. The two most likely situations to be sort of guaranteed an appointment are: 3Q with a Principle Nom, or 3Q with a nom and an LOA. A lot of candidates 3Q, with a Nom and no LOA end up on the NWL and then they could be 1 of 150 chosen from that "Wait List", but no guarantee of appointment.
Agree, LOA is clutch. More this year than I've ever seen.vast majority have LOA's
Capt MJ that's like 4 or 5 factsOf the small percentage self-reported here on SAF, there are many LOAs - yes.
We do not have visibility on the unreported appointments, how many, when offered, and how many had LOAs. We have no idea if there is a correlation between those who tend to self-report and LOAs, if there is an inherent bias. It may or may not be accurate to extrapolate from the small sample size here.
There is one fact we can be fairly sure of: the majority of those offered appointments do not have LOAs. And, an appointment is an appointment is an appointment, no matter when in the cycle offered, how many noms were collected, whether or not LOAs were offered or principal noms indicated. All are the same on Day 1, in terms of rank. All graduate as O-1, with all the minutiae of the admissions process fast receding in the rear view mirror perspective.

Agree with all, but LOAs and multiple/principle nominations reduce the uncertainty and move the appointment needle. Once received, all the same.
