As a non-military family mom with a homeschooled daughter very interested in the USAFA, I’m wondering if there is someone (an advisor of sorts?) to put her in touch with to make sure she is doing what she needs to be doing to apply to get into the USAFA when the time comes? I will apologize up front not knowing the way this all works.... just trying to do what i can do for her to help put her in front of the right people that can help her out. Thank you

For starters, coming here was a great move! I suggest you check out academyadmissions.com as a resource for USAFA. Next, connect with the local Academy Liaison Officer (ALO) for your area:

We are always excited to talk with students and parents about the process, the school, and the Air Force!

Search this site for anything that could apply to your daughter ... medical issues, home schooling, leadership, improving SATs, improving leadership, volunteer opportunities.

Start with the tried and true bookmarked “stickies” at the beginning of each forum. Do you see those? They contain a lot of the main issues/questions that appear every year. Very good resource!!

Also figure out how to search efficiently within these forums. When I began, I couldn’t search well, or figure out where to find ‘stickies’. But you will get it of you dont already know. Wonderful information!!

If after your daughter becomes very familiar with USAFA's admission website, and the information here on the forums, she still has questions, please don't hesitate to reach out. You can send me a private message anytime. (I think you have to have a minimum number of posts to send a private message). I have mentored numerous applicants to both USAFA and USNA and would be happy to help her. Please note, I am not a professional consultant, just an experienced grad/parent that volunteers my time mentoring prospective applicants.

Also, on the USAFA website there is a pamphlet written for homeschoolers. Search the forum for homeschool and you will find threads. You will need to write course descriptions for each HS course, her senior schedule, her transcript, and something else I can't remember. The course descriptions are time consuming. I would suggest staying on top of those so you don't have to do them all at once. Probably the best source of information for me has been this forum, but the information on USAFA website for HSer's is a great start.

Click on an individual forum. USNA for example. At the top, there are a few “articles”, titles. Click on it. Each one is called a ‘stickie’. Like a post-it note of info. It stays ‘stuck’ at the top of the individual forum forever. Or until a moderator removes it. It’s a permanent thread of information that’s deemed important. Read them and you will see why.

great advice. I feel like that is something I can start doing!

If she is interested in Aviation, unmanned (drones), search & rescue, or cyber, she may want to find the nearest Civil Air Patrol squadron and check it out. CAP is attractive to home schoolers as it gives them a similar experience to AFJROTC.
