Which Army MOS's are the most/least competitive?

The reference just flew right over my head :shake:

We had a kid come in who said he literally wanted to be the next Patton, so it wouldn't surprise me.....

Why stop there? Be a Patton/MacArthur/Eisenhower/Schwarzkopf/Powell hybrid haha. C'mon be creative!

I want to be the next Colonel Kilgore. Nothing says "Promote ahead of peers" like surfing to Wagner in a yellow bandana.

Now I got that reference! Above center mass for sure and in the cav world you can skip a rank!:thumb:

WOW - I did not expect this many replies. Thank you for all the great information. :thumb:

I'm in the minority that are not looking to go into one of the combat branches. I've got a couple of years before I really need to worry about this, but I'm hoping to get into Human Resources and eventually want to get into either Civil Affairs or Public Relations. So I hope I'll have a better chance at getting my first choice (HR) since it's not as sought after as other branches like Infantry, Armor, MP, MI, etc.

Also, blackhawks, your best bet at being commissioned in the branch that you want is to finish high enough on the national OML that you do not have to worry about which branches are popular or not.

You can't go Civil Affairs right out the gate, because it's not a basic branch. I believe 0-3 (Captain) is when you can apply to join that branch. It sounds like you want to be in Adjutant General, aka the personnel and HR section of the Army.

Just be aware that a large percentage of males in every "soft" branch will be selected to branch detail. You'll get a brief in your MS3 year about it, but it might be worth it to poke around and ask cadre. Last time I checked, 60% of AG soldiers end up getting branch detailed, whether they want to or not. And if you get branch detailed, guess where you're going - that's right, Infantry, Armor, Artillery, etc. So just know what the possibilities are, even if you want to go a non MFE branch.
