Hello, according to my congressman, I most likely will win the slate through his nomination at west point as the other applicants in my district are not nearly as competitive as me...

Question though, I think I am 3q'd although I haven't recieved a letter, however, I think I am a prime candidate for prep school do to my highest math class on my transcript being trig jr. Year, followed by stats senior year.

What do you guys know?

What would the outcome be, do I win the slate with a direct appointment? do I win the slate then got appointed to prep school?, or do I loose the slate to another applicant and then get appointed to prep school?

It depends on what the risks in your file are and how deep they are. You can be the principal nominee and not qualify academically, physically or medically and they would move to the next candidate. Depending on how big a risk you are, it is possible to be reviewed and deemed an acceptable risk (usually academically) and offered an appointment. Having a PNOM and not getting an offer does not get you an automatic slot in USMAPs. Depending on where and how bad the weakness in your file is, your file will be often br closely looked at for potential fit with USMAPS as a courtesy to Congressional offices.

Thank you very much for your insight.

Note: I dont think I have a Principle Nomination, just that my file is much better than the other's in my district.

Speculation of course, but what kind of risk does does my math bring? Minded I have a 690 Math/640 English on SAT. All other aspects of my application are of quality.

Is this the kind of situation that would merit USMAPS?

Do you think I still have a chance at a direct appointment?

Thank you again

Completely depends on your Congressional district, the nom you have as well as all the other things in your file is: extracurriculars, gpa, athletics etc. Trig is also the minimum acceptable math, so if that is your concern, you are good.

Although there may be exceptions, only those found academically unqualified by the admissions board are considered for USMAPS.

There are a limited number of spaces at USMAPS and with the number of spaces taken by soldiers and recruited athletes, USMAPS is unlikely for a candidate determined qualified for direct appointment.

Would my Math being limited to trig/stats, becuase I have an sat of 690 math, qualify me?

A simple and quick scan of the USMA class profile would immediately show you that plenty of cadets are admitted with far lower scores than 690. Do your homework.
