Calling all Covid era work remotely PROS.

Howdy, I just signed a contract to work from home/anywhere with internet service. New career, new challenges. I need to set up a home office so I can work remotely.

I am curious as to your recommendations for the following:

*a good, comfy headset with good quality sound and mic (wireless)
*laptop stand/combo monitor stand
*favorite good-sized, efficient L-shaped desk ( I have one in mind)

Also, any tips/tricks, dos/dont's that you gleaned from being locked up during Covid.

Wish me luck!!

Lighting, lighting, lighting!

Lumecube is an excellent solution to make you look mahhhvelous on video!
Would you say a stand alone desk arm version or one that attaches to a laptop?

I do like it when I look maahhhvelous!

Go for headsets that are wired, would not recommend wireless. Lot of issues with consistency and quality of sound.

Would you be doing video presentations, talks etc?

Not sure yet. But likely at some point yes to presenting to a team. But I also told them travel is welcome. The company HQ is 56 miles from Gate 1!!!

Great choice for a L-shaped table. (if you haven't bought it/have it already, also consider an automatic standing desk, where you can adjust it to any level of height you want. I found my table amazing because it prevents me from sitting down all the time during distance learning.)

Also, make sure to get a very comfortable chair that provides good back support. Small indoor plants will also be nice.

Do you have a fave lshaped? I am wanting at least 22 inches in depth. Don’t like monitor in my face. I have one in mind but am open to suggestions. I also am planning on a standing version soon.

Also, keyboard trays (which can attach to your table) that you can slide from right under your desk allows you to have more room and space on your desk. This was a lifesaver.

Oooh I like that. Thank you. I worked from home for a decade but it wasn’t live remote work. I emailed reports. Life before zoom and Covid. I need to evolve.

I appreciate the suggestions, keep ‘em comin’!

Hmm, I prefer a modern table with the material to be made of wood (that lasts a long time) since they bring an authentic feel of furniture to your corner space. But it really depends on the style of your home office and what you envision. Your new workspace sounds exciting and good luck on your new career lifestyle!

I bought this and so far worked well for me. Been working remote since the beginning of Covid-19, sadly we're asked to go back to the office...

Hieha USB C Hub, 15 in 1 USB C... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0897GX8P3?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Logitech MK270 Wireless Keyboard... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079JLY5M5?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Webcam with Microphone Full 1080P... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08LKZ27C9?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

(Invest in a good monitor or two)

If buying a new table, consider one that allows you to work while standing. The table can be moved up/down and very adjustable.

Great list thank you!

For my earphone, I just use the wired earphone/mic included with my old Samsung phone. Since it worked well (other people can hear me well and I can hear them well without lag) I just didn't replace. I do have wireless earphones but they hurt my ear and can't wear for long. If you have a private room office, you can just use the Webcam mic which is also good based on my experience.

If your ISP modem supports Gig Ethernet, you may consider using this vs wifi. Or have an internal local Gig network for your work equipment. At home, my kids are on wifi, I have direct connect wired to the ISP box. No contest. Some equipment to consider (I'm currently using):
NETGEAR 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PFYM5MZ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

TP-Link USB to Ethernet Adapter... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YUU3KC6?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Cat8 Ethernet Cable 6ft 2Pack,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B081JK32GL?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Amazon Basics RJ45 Cat-6... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01INRUFGK?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

PoE networking (power over ethernet) is also faster than wifi. You can also read about this if this may be helpful in your situation.
