Today in my son's portal, it states, "Your Decision is Ready"

The decision letter states that "the Office of Admissions believes you have the potential to be a successful cadet at the United States Air Force Academy."

"Once your file is complete and you have satisfactorily met all of the Admission requirements, I plan to move your file forward in our Admissions process. You may go to your online candidate portal or call your admissions counseling team to determine which requirements still need to be completed."

Is this the Air Force LOA? when I saw the decision letter I got all excited. He still needs to complete the CFA (next week) and also complete the second half of the ALO interview (in his case its 2 parts)

We were told last application cycle for my DS2027 that this is a Letter Of Encouragement (LOE).

A very good sign. Keep up the work and get your Nominations too.

My son received this also. It says “decision ready”. That makes me think LOA. He has completed the application.

Best guess, conservatively - USAFA version of LOE, letter of encouragement.

LOA uses definitive language like, “you will be offered an appointment after you successfully complete these requirements, ….” Or there may be no conditions, but a specific intent is made clear - assurance of an appointment.

LOE - “move forward in the process.” “You have potential.”A good thing because it’s not the “Competition was particularly strong this year, and we regret…”

The BEST thing to do is always consult the primary source. Your son should contact an Admissions POC and clarify the meaning. He can share that with you, and it would be helpful if you shared it here.

These letters get tweaked from year to year. USMA is sending out LOEs now.

Totally agree. My ds got one and there is no language that makes me think it is anything more than an LOE.

I would take “decision ready” as “we have made an interim decision that you have enough potential to continue in the process at this time.”

Again, best practice is consult primary source.

I have also received the same notification. I am assuming it is a LOE.

It is often referred to as a "letter of interest" (LOI) as it does not include an invitation to visit the AF Academy, unlike the LOE in which USMA Admissions invites you for an overnight visit. Small detail, but as @Capt MJ noted, use a primary source and reach out to AFA Admissions to clarify the intent, if you have questions. All good news . . . and we all "encourage" you to complete the entire application. You can find the missing items on your portal Checklist that was 'exposed' when you submitted your Candidate Kit. Best of luck!

Completed everything else too in application process? Ie medical, interview, PFE…

I got it as well, and since it didn't say that I would be getting an appointment, I assumed it didn't have the same weight as an LOA. That said, I have nothing left to complete technically, so I guess I just continue waiting. College applications sure do have a lot of waiting lol.

A common unofficial motto of the military is "hurry up and wait."

As only a dad, saying "Decision is ready" seems oddly inappropriate if this is a LOE, since it really isn't anywhere near a decision. At least an LOA would be some sort of decision. Seems 'status change' or 'new update' would be more appropriate for a LOE in portal.

I think it just the way the portal is set up to deliver official correspondence. The new portal in only 3 yrs old and they’ve made improvements each year. I could see this changing eventually.

Is the fact that a student receives this letter a good sign because only top tier candidates receive it? Or, does go out to everyone to encourage them to keep going through the process?

At this point, the holes in the sieve are smaller than they were, but more open than they will be later on in the process, particularly after all nom slates are in, all applications are in, DoDMERB exams wrap up, etc. There is no way to know what the distribution of these letters is. Just some positive reinforcement in early laps of the track.

This is one of those where the standard advice is “Focus on what you can control.”

Thank you very much for posting this! Very helpful to hear the opinions of others. The portal notification of "Your Decision is Ready" and "View Decision" button definitely influences the language in the letter when you read it. Did this letter also accelerate your deadline completion date (if it wasn't already completed)?
