MJC
So DS began his West Point application a year ago, his goal was to become an Army officer. Late in the summer WP admissions sent a letter closing his application due to one of 3 things, low test score, lack of leadership, low class rank, etc....
He applied for national ROTC Scholarship and has been re-boarded again (h. In the meantime he increased his act test scores and applied to a JMC in-state (which was actually his preference to attend with or without scholarship). He applied and was accepted to the school and applied for the AROTC program. Keep in mind he has made 3 trips to visit the school starting the spring of his junior year, had the PMS there do his official interview, and has been in contact with admissions, the ROO, and the PMS during the time frame.
Yesterday he received an e-mail from them offering him a 2 yr Early Commission Program scholarship. He immediately replied and after talking to the ROO had it changed to their ROTC 2+2 scholarship.(2yrs at the MJC and 2 yrs at a nearby 4 yr state university (which was his second choice to attend) to complete his tech. management degree. Scholarship is for 4 yrs full tuition and the schools pick up the room and board.
I got home last night, gave him a big hug, and he was off to church.
Point is, have plans, have back-up plans, and if you want something, stick with it. He is now on his way to achieve his goal of becoming an active duty officer in the US Army.
