Airline ticket for In-Processing

I don't suppose anyone else is on a direct flight from Minneapolis on Northwest on the 24th? I'm going to do bed and breakfast. If you don't do bed and breakfast and you show up the 24th, you have to pay for your lodging and all expenses from arrival to I-day check in.

We plan on getting there a week early so the boy can train and get aclimated with the elevation.

Not sure if its really that big of a deal, but not too sure that posting the flight numbers that you're going to be on is a great idea.

I seem to recall there was an issue with this last year also. Just a thought.

Be very carefull if you make any changes to the flights issued. If for some reason a flight you chose is delayed or cancelled it could cause a problem. If the flight is an issued flight then it would be excused if for some reason it actually delayed the arrival at USAFA.

ya i dont think getting there early to train is really necessary.....everyone else is in the same boat for the most part, but wat ever floats your boat (or puts the wind underneath your wings ;]) lol

I've considered doing this as well. I've got an aunt and uncle in Denver with whom I'm very close, so I would stay with them. To current cadets/parents, do you think this would be beneficial? And can I still get an issued ticket, just for earlier?

I'm not sure that I really want to, because I think I might like to just go on the 24th and stay with a sponsor family, but I wanted to see if you who have done this before have any thoughts on whether it would be a good idea or not.

I've heard it really isn't worth it. It still takes months to get properly acclimated. I'd say enjoy summer while you can. If you can have fun in CO for a few weeks, go for it.

only come up early (a week before, etc) to spend time with your family and see the area. you WILL NOT get acclimated in a week. dont waste your time... no, you cant get an issued ticket for earlier. the one they send you is it. the day before.. and you can elect to do the bed and breakfast program w/ the AOG, which i definitely recommend..

Going with the issued ticket, how common is it for parents to travel to COS and try to meet up with their child in the airport?

You cannot get a ticket earlier paid for by the AFA. BUT... you can take that ticket (after you get the paid ticket from the AFA) and pay the change charge to change it to a different (earlier) date. You just have to wait until you get the ticket and then you can get online or call the airline and make the change to an earlier date. You just have to pay the change fee (and that could be significant). That is my understanding from what was sent us.

I think I'll most like fly out the 24th and hopefully do the Bed and Breakfast program. Thanks for you input, everybody. :)

Can someone post a link to where we apply for the bed and breakfast program or something to that extent. I heard that we may need to call to sign up, but when I was searching the AOG website they had an updated link but it seemed that the B&B breakfast registration was for hosts rather than appointees. Anyone who can help point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

If you click on event registration you will see it. However, I called them today because after you fill in your information and put in your charge card, it comes up with an error message. I called and emailed them the error message.

I tried to access the B&B online registration page a couple of days ago, and showed an error page (didn't even give me the opportunity to fill in my info). Anyone know how much it costs?

actually i think they changed it to $12 this year

.....They may have. But the page where you register says only 10. Either way, it's not gonna hurt the wallet. Probably worth more than money, anyways.

To USAFA 2013,

Go to page 1 of this thread. I posted the directions there. However, I got an email back from AOG that they have reported the error message that everyone is getting to their IT dept. and would email me when the system is functioning. I will post when I get notified it is working.
