AROTC "winners"

Question: I know for NROTC, if you "accept" the scholarship, you can still decline later on -- like if you get an appointment to one of the service academies. Is it the same way with accepting an AROTC scholarship? I'm looking over the paperwork and it isn't as clear as it is with an NROTC scholarship. If anyone has any info would appreciate it, thanks so much!

Yes, they cannot force you to use the scholarship.

Since my DS had the scholarship and Wash U was his first choice school (even over the academies) I allowed him to apply early decision. He was accepted and now will be a member of the Gateway Battalion.

Congratulations to your son.

Congrats to your DS

Read an article where their applications for enrollment are down due to the turmoil in Ferguson.

I almost went there back in the mid 80's when I graduated.

I have to admit, and I bet I'm not the only one, I got excited when I saw this post at the top.... I thought maybe results were in early! :) Waiting patiently here.

My DS is so excited about possibly getting this scholarship. He is really anxious about it. Hoping and praying for good news. These kids have worked hard for years.

Bumping this thread. Anyone have a status change to "winner" from the 2nd board yet?

If the same time interval prevails as existed with the first board, then Jan 22 will be the release date. However, a greater time may be required due to the larger number of scholarships to process. My prediction is that scholarships will be released after the 22nd.

I surely hope not. My DS goes to WASHU and is in that Battalion. He absolutely loves the PMS and the others in his battalion and couldn't be happier & prouder to attend that fine school and be a member of that fine battalion. Personally, as his mom, I feel that getting a close view to all that has transpired w/ regards to Ferguson will only make them better officers.

Yeah unfortunately, I was just changed to boarded as well. Congratulations to everyone who got the scholarship though!

Why do you say unfortunately? If you were just changed to boarded, you haven't had the opportunity to receive a scholarship yet. The way I understand the process to work, they have to board everyone who has their information in before they give out the scholarships for this round. Anyone receiving a scholarship already was boarded for the first round. I think you had to have all your information in by Oct 3rd or something like that. Keep your chin up, you have missed out on nothing for this round yet!

Really that's true? Wow I guess I misunderstood the process. I thought that my status switching to boarded meant that I was not given one on the second round and have to wait for the third round.
