DS was waitlisted for 2019 and finally received a TWE (in email form) about three weeks ago. Got a call yesterday, however, from a BGO (not our original BGO, who stepped down after the class of 2019 cycle, but one who is new to us). He advised our DS to submit his final grades immediately. Our heads are spinning. DS is committed to Cornell Engineering with a NROTC scholarship. (Other DS is USNA class of 2017 and desperately wants his little brother to be at USNA with him). I-Day is Wednesday!! Has anyone else received a call like this? Any thoughts
Not to burst your bubble, but I can almost guarantee that if USNA Admissions wanted your grades ASAP, your RD would contact you directly (vs. through the BGO). And they would have asked for them weeks ago. Also, unless something has changed this year, once you receive an official turndown from USNA, it is permanent. If there is still a potential for a very late admission, which has happened, I believe they keep you on the WL until the bitter end. You can imagine the chaos that would ensue if USNA "reversed" even one turndown to an appointment -- there would never be any finality for any candidates.
My guess is that the new BGO believes you intend to reapply and is eager/anxious. For your sake, I hope I'm incorrect about all of the above.
And BTW, congrats on NRTOC/Cornell. What a great option!
