Early Action Apps

List of things my service academy applicant can do while he is waiting for an answer from Admissions:
1. Clean his room
2. Work out / physical fitness / conditioning
3. Clean his room
4. Help me paint the living room
5. Clean his room
6. Help me get rid of old junk in the basement
7. Clean his room
8. Mow the grass or rake leaves in the yard
9. Clean his room
10. CLEAN HIS ROOM!!!!!!!!

The good news doesn't always come in big fat envelopes

Don't depair too much if the envelope isn't the big one....our daughter received a regular sized letter with a conditional appointment. She had to clear an issue with DODMERB. The story still had a happy ending and she is living her dream.

Thanks, momclassof2014! You made me feel a lot better now!
Good luck to you and your cadet!

Long Island, this is hysterical and much appreciated! Today we were on the way home from interviewing with our senators' offices and I told my DD, "Now all you have to do is wait... and CLEAN YOUR ROOM."

Take a Deep Breath...

Having been through this I can only offer the following... please try not to set timetables for yourself. Yes, EA appointments come out right before Christmas. However, some come early. Some appointments are deferred until regular admissions. Then, I will refer you to some of the other folks who did not receive anything until late May, but appointments were still showing up in between. I know it is not what you all want to hear, but it is intended for you to keep heart. There are bulk mailings, but not all appointments are sent out at the same time. Try not to read into anything.

We initially received a deferment letter around Christmas, but he then got his appointment right before the RA deadline in February. The term 'emotional rollercoaster' is metaphoric, but perhaps inadequate to describe the significant ups and downs as we all waited patiently to see what the future had in store for our son. Yes, we stalked our mailman. I cannot say we did not. The nice thing is that we got to know him and now he often asks how our son is doing. He became part of the process. A little advise... you may want to let him in on why you are standing by the mailbox every day (rain or shine), leaving him cookies and other bribes, etc. That way, the mail(person) knows what you are looking for, and he is less likely to report you to FBI. HAH!

The Admissions office does a fantastic job of sifting through the plethora of qualified candidates. In my opinion they are clearly more focused on getting it right than hitting a specific timetable. My advise here is to focus on the positive. Unless you receive a clear 'thanks, but no thanks' you are still in the game.

Best wishes to all.

Sincerely,

Argos

"Go Bears!"

P.S. Officer, you chopped off all your hair!!! Looks great. My wife told me she thought she saw you in front of Leamy as we were cruising through the Academy on Parent's Weekend but the haircut threw her. Now I have to let her know she might not be crazy after all! LOL

During today's parents session, we were told approximately 450 applications were received under Early Action I. They expect similar number for Early Action II.

EA Group One ended up being 498 applications.

EA Group Two is currently 463 applications, but could slightly increase due to administrative errors and some October ACT results which haven't arrived yet.

Of course, that number includes the 64 CGA Scholars (who began the program) who are virtually guaranteed an appointment upon completion of the prep program.

70 CGA Scholars started the program in July 2010; 66 are currently enrolled; and we're holding 60 spots in the Class of 2015 for them. Depending upon how many CGA Scholars successfully complete the program we will either increase or decrease that number in April/May 2011.

Objee, thanks very much for the info. Can you confirm that the target enrollment for the class of 2015 is in fact 290? Also, are you able to share whether there are a certain number of offers designated for the two early action pools?

Correct...the Class of 2015 will be 290 U.S. Cadets plus International Cadets.

We don't have a specific number of appointments we want to tender under EA, but I don't think we would ever exceed 55% of the class because we know a lot of great applicants are coming in RA. Last year we were very conservative and intentionally appointed only 40% of the class under EA, although many EA deferrals later received appointments during RA, but that was the decision of our previous Director of Admissions. The new/current Director of Admissions may want to appoint a higher (I highly doubt it would be lower) or the same percentage this year under EA.

EA Stats Available??

Does admissions have any information on how many of the 498 for EA round 1 were Aimsters?

Just trying to guess at our % chances of getting a full appointment in EA round 1...

Also...are offers extended to more than the anticipated 290 as not all offers will be accepted? (I know other colleges know typically the % of students that will actually attend so they will accept a higher number than what the actual class will result in...didnt know if the CGA follows this same thought process)

Thanks...

Anxious Mother :)

Can't answer the first part...but yes, they definitely offer more appointments than the 290...roughly 400 I believe. The "yield" is usualy around 75%. Good luck.:thumb:

ah! this just made me so nervous. i applied EA 1 and it's all becoming so real. this week i finally started the mailman stalking! Good luck to all the applicants out there :)

thanks Boss

Thanks for the info...

I am feeling more nauseous as the day approaches...he looks perfect on paper...but you never know what the competition brings to the table...

god now im nervous....wasn't planning on even thinking about looking for the letter until dec. 20th but now... And why don't they just put all the letters int the same size envelope?!? I'm scared to open the mailbox...

And why don't they just put all the letters int the same size envelope?!?

Deferral letters and conditional appointment letters are both a single piece of paper, so they fit in a standard envelope. Full appointment packages include the appointment letter, a Statement of Acceptance and Obligation, a Statement of Decline, instructions for accepting or declining your appointment, a Catalog of Courses, and two pre-paid return envelopes...so all of that obviously won't fit in a standard envelope.

Objee, will EA I and EA II applicants receive their notifications at the same time, or as separate groups? Thanks very much...

Separate...

  • EA #1 Deadline = 15 October. Decisions no later than 24 December.

  • EA #2 Deadline = 1 November. Decisions no later than 15 January.

  • Regular Admissions Deadline = 1 February. Decisions no later than 15 April.

  • All appointment offers must be accepted or declined by 1 May.

I applied EA1, but i got very good Quarter 1 grades. Should i send them? I've already sent a package w/ a few extra things after the deadline, and its already Nov.29, so is it worth it? I'll definately send them if i get deferred...Any ideas?
