My DS is still in the running, but wondering if applicants are literally getting a TWE or is the notice coming via e-mail or portal?

You ARE a strong candidate! And you should be proud of all you have accomplished. Unfortunately, there are just too many factors over which applicants have no control. Remember that the SAs, like all top-tier colleges, have a lot of targets they're trying to meet, eg appointments from all 50 states and overseas, appointments across all majors, appointments for recruited athletes, etc., etc. Sometimes it's simply bad luck that there are too many candidates from your same area. Hoping you have a great Plan B and/or will reapply next year. Keep the faith and try to keep up that great attitude and your excellent work ethic. Sure you will succeed!77/422 (transferred high schools after sophomore year)

I felt like I was a strong candidate; however, I will continue to improve!
Congratulations, Doc! Does the backup school have NROTC? He could pursue college program and earn a contract/scholarship.My sons came via Email, then verified on login on the portal.
I am sure the TWE will be coming in the mail soon.
On a positive note, he was just notified of an Academic Scholarship to his backup school of choice, and he didn't even apply for it!
So, that helps a bit, but he really isn't too down about it, still has his hopes up for USCGA and is comfortable enough with himself to move on. I am very proud of him, but that is way of our family, a disappointment is not a stop, just a step.
I am surprised how many posts of rejections on that same day, looks like Black Tuesday around this place!

Amen to that!"B" plans can be the best plans!! My son is proof! He is participating in NROTC on scholarship at a great school and is also doing in D1 athletics. Doing well and loves his school. He Decided against reapplying to USNA Class of 2020 as he found a home where he was at! USNA is not the only way... Embrace those plans and move forward.
Plan B's are now our plan A's. My DS was also part of the mass TWE mailing yesterday. He got the email and his portal was updated. RPI and a 4 year NROTC scholarship are the current plan A. That could change over the next few weeks as additional schools make their decisions.
He is still coping with the rejection, and he is questioning his desire to serve. He feels like "If the Navy doesn't want me, why should I want them." He will get over it. Being in a battalion with like minded kids and a sense of purpose will be the best thing for him. It will just take some time to get over the disappointment.
As for stats, I will only brag, and only give the the good stuff.
Class Rank 1 out of 400
GPA: 4.0/4.0 6.0/6.0. Never had a B and has taken 12 AP courses
Math SAT: 800
Eagle Scout
Track Varsity and Captain
Yes the competition is steep.

To get a TWE with these credentials is just astounding to me... I am just stunned...I know NJ is very competitive...but ..I have not seen better!
Your Son is amazing, 5Day!
Seriously??? Looks like the ones getting appointments are walking on the Severn River, parting it for battleships and are giving their "Sermon on the Mount" when they receive the MOC call! Remind him that the Navy didn't say they didn't want him. They said he did not beat out his competition THIS year. There is always next year and there are always other ways to obtain a commission.Plan B's are now our plan A's. My DS was also part of the mass TWE mailing yesterday.
