Fate of NCAA gymnastics, boxing, fencing and rifle team

To me personally, fencing (Or any sport) having to reduce their budget seems pretty insignificant when you have 99 people losing their jobs and 1/3 of all academic majors being eliminated due to the budget cuts. And remember this is JUST what the Academy is reducing. The cuts are happening across the entire Air Force and all the branches. My oldest son is enlisted in the Air Force and has seen MANY contractor jobs eliminated and has seen the devastating affects on those families.

I'd consider not having a single sport eliminated (Just having budgets reduced) considering everything that is beign cut a BIG WIN for the athletes. It could be MUCH worse. Just ask those losing their incomes.

It is always sad to see jobs cut. I've been laid off years ago and it wasn't fun. But the purpose of the military isn't job creation or retention.

So for me at least, worry about how many jobs were cut should not be in the equation. Politically speaking, that is THE problem when it comes to making cuts. No one wants their bases eliminated even if it is logical. Hence, Academy parents and students don't want to see their programs cut. It's human nature.
