LDAC 2014

When do cadets find out their LDAC schedule? Same question for CTLT, airborne and/or air assault schools.

Word is CTLT slots come down tomorrow. Will believe it when DS calls with his. You can almost narrow down which LDAC regiment by CTLT dates, but not quite. You will at least be able to determine which regiment you are not attending, if that's helpful. Maybe they'll hand them both out at the same time.

Abn/AA are more Bn dependent. At DSs school it's typically Feb/Mar when they're told what schools they receive. My son knew he had a Dive school slot in November, since the preparation and requirements are pretty intensive, but I understand that's not the norm. I also understand dive school will not be offered to cadets any longer. That's unofficial, but the May class size in ATRRS seems to go along with it.

If he plans to go Active, I would not go the Guard route...at all. There are other ways to secure funds for college, but going Guard could interfere with his plans for AD later on as stated before me. For the best answers, talk with a ROO at the BN. Guard folks are going to tell you what they want you to know, not what you need to know.

Other hassle component: his home state is 1000 miles away from school state. Will it be a hassle to switch around weekend drill locations on school breaks?

To answer this part of your question, yes, he can drill at a different unit when he comes back home. He isn't reassigned, he simply attends drill there. I actually spent a good portion of my time in the Reserve drilling with other units because I never returned to my home state after AIT. I even drilled with an active duty unit after moving overseas and waiting for my transfer out of the Reserve.

The Reserve calls it an RST. The National Guard calls it a split certificate. This is something he needs to discuss with them early on. He needs the permission of his chain of command to do this. So long as they say yes, he's good. If for whatever reason they say no, then he's going to be buying a plane ticket back for a weekend.

plane ticket back for a weekend.

Minimum $300 (with way-out advance planning) plus transportation to airport. If this is even a remote possibility on a monthly basis, I don't understand why someone would entertain the idea of signing that contract. Why give yourself the possibility of all these hassles and paperwork headaches?

It can be worth the time if you aren't on scholarship. Access to Tuition Assistance, a couple hundred and change in drill pay a month, TIS accrual for pay purposes, a small bump on the OML, and a shot at Air Assault in some states.

LAND NAV

Are they grading the land nav at LDAC to go towards our OML? I heard that the land nav that counted for our OML is done on campus now.

They usually release an OML breakdown for each year group some time during the spring. It shows exactly what each activity is worth.

Has anyone heard any new rumblings about when LDAC assignments will be communicated?

Should be coming soon. We sat down and were assigning dates this week for the 3's. Same for CTLT and Airborne/Air Assault

My son just found out he got 1st Regiment. I guess they will be the first guinea pigs for this whole new process.

good luck to him on that. It's going to be a sh!t show there this summer. I hope to stop by when I'm at Knox for CULP and just watch the chaos from afar.

Well that just boosted everyone's confidence a bunch.

I think this is a fair assessment. There were issues for LDAC in 2013 when it's been at Lewis for 40 years... Obviously there will be some hiccups. But that's alright! It'll be good training.

I was one of the first regs last year and I had the same worries that all the changes would affect my evaluations. However you have to remember that the cadre coming to do the evaluations are the same ones that were there last year and they are looking at the same thing they've been looking at for the last 40+ years. Just show up and be confident and you'll do fine. They will teach you everything you haven't already learned. Good luck for everyone heading out this summer! I'm sure you'll come back with tons of cool stories.

As sad as it is, it's true. It's not going to be rough because of a change in # of evals or combining committees (though that definitely will change things), but moving the largest CONUS training event in the entire Army across the country for the first time in decades, there will be hiccups. In my opinion, not really in the realm of affecting evals, but mainly just confusion on how things are supposed to work in a new environment. It will be an added stressor on cadet leadership that could end up making them stand out to the TACs. It's going to be real hard for cadet's to get E's, not that an E should be the benchmark for success.

Whatever the result, it will be fun to watch.

On the other hand, we were speculating today on reasons why they are switching to this new BS eval method, and why they won't release a national OML...doesn't make much sense.

My son got his assignment today. He's in the third wave so maybe some of the biggest kinks will have been worked out.

He also got his CTLT assignment.

Well I will be at LDAC again :frown: but this time as a 1LT so I don't blend in with the butter bars ;)....
