Mandatory wearing of ASU's to class.

Pretty much; there are a lot of online military clothing stores nowadays (excluding the PX) - althought not sure about for ASU's. I know a lot of the online ones sell utility uniforms (ie: ACUs, ABUs, MultiCam etc)

Well the American uniforms are not so bad. Imagine if they had to wear these Indian Pakistan Border Guard Uniforms.

I like this idea, too. Just where does one go to find uniform items? I suppose this is all done on-line now, with the help of a local tailor.

Marlow White is the go to place for all your ASU needs. There may be other options but this is where most of the cadets at my son's school get theirs.

Just take a deep breath before you click the cost total button.

Jcleppe - is the premium actually any better? Or is it more of a gimmick?

Just spoke to DS, AROTC MSIV. When I asked him what he'd like for his B-day, I half anticipated the answer: a full uniform.

A Couple of questions:

What else would he need in addition to the premium package besides an extra shirt or two? What about the hat?

What about the green uniform? Is that history?

Is he required to wear the high gloss shoes?

Have all the fun you want with the dumb questions? I'm on a need to know basis with the DS, and I don't need to know much.

BTW. He mentioned that he doesn't need to uniform until May, which is when he commissions.

He wants to make sure he gets at least one on the short sleeve shirts and the shoulder boards that go with them so he has a Class B uniform.

The Green uniform is all gone.

The high gloss shoes are the best, no shinning required, make sure that he doesn't keep the ones he got in ROTC. I believe my son kept his.

The cover (Hat) is a personal choice, he can just go with the Beret that comes with the package, or he can opt for the premium cover (Otherwise known as the Bus Drivers hat) Son went for the full meal deal.

Your son is right that he doesn't "Need" the uniform until May, but be aware that the uniform will need tailoring and the clasps for the shoulder boards and the sleeve stripes will need to be sewn on the uniform. Depending on how many cadets and mids will be graduating the tailors in town that know how to work on military uniforms may get pretty busy. I suggest getting the uniform at least be early April at the latest. They sometimes ship the wrong sizes or there are defects and you need you get replacements, you want to leave time for this just in case. Tell him to give himself plenty of time to get the tailoring done. Once it's all tailored they will be inspected by the cadre, if they don't like something it will need to be fixed. These are military uniforms and they can't just be tailored like a fine fitting suit, there are regulations.

I know how some of these kids love to procrastinate with things like this, the "It's no big deal dad" statement comes to mind. Just tell them they won't be up on stage getting those bars pinned on if the uniform isn't ready because they waited to long to order.

Thanks J.

We're planning to order over Thanksgiving and tailor over Christmas.

I can't get use to the high gloss shoes.

Many moons ago when I was with the Presidential Honor Guard, we were issued a pair of the "Shinny Shoes" Corframs. We were the only ones to have them. When I left and was walking once through the District Office, an Admiral stopped me and wanted to know where he could get a pair. Sure saved a lot of time with the polish rag. Now they seem to be pretty standard issue.

They are now standard issue for the services. The days of shining anything are gone unless you're in an airborne unit, in which case you wear leather Corcoran jump boots with your ASUs and those must be shined.
