March 8th, 2011 AROTC Board

I AM SUPER ANXIOUS! Good luck everyone, lets hope the long wait is over!!!

I, too, want to wish everyone GOOD LUCK THIS WEEK!!!!!!

Glad to see you back on-line...hope you and DS had great visits last week.

And here we begin another anxious week of waiting... @OhioParent - anyone still have dates in the betting pool?

Looks like great weather in KS for a few days... 65-70 with no rain...NICE!

Can't countdown the days until graduation - it makes me too anxious! Plus, I am on the committee planning the all night after-grad party so it reminds me how much there is to get done in so little time!

Happy Monday all! :thumb:

Why does it make sense that the bulk of these awards may be 3 year ones?

Hey bjc,

We heard a while back, before the results from 1/4/11 board, that a lot of the remaining awards would not be 4 year ones. The budget issues, manpower concerns all lean toward this. Also, the 1/4/11 awards contained some 3 year(not normal for a second board) so it makes sense that a lot of these final CC offerings could be 3 year advance designees, typically campus based funds are 3 year too.

Hope that helps.

Good to see both KSmom and Patentesq back with us!!! No, I do not have anyone taking the late April dates for the "pool". I guess none of us wanted to really believe it could go this late. Very hopeful for this week. Could use some good news, but like I've been saying, at this point just knowing what path to take will be a huge relief.

These have been some of the longest months EVER. Thanks guys and gals for hanging out!!

Thanks, Ksmom! ROTC school visits went great. After considerable thought, DS selected USMA last night as his school and will be placing the AROTC and AFROTC scholarships back into the pool.

Glad to hear DS has made a great decision. Congrats on completing the mission of placing your first child in a college. :thumb:

I think I picked April 15th - let's hope EVERYONE hears SOMETHING prior to then...

Congratulations! Great choice. Isn't it wonderful to be on the other side of this long process!

Ohio is right on in regards to the 3 year AD Scholarships. We also hear the same thing from my older son's PMS and ROO that there couln be a lot more 3 year AD Scholarships. The 3 year AD will save a consederable amount in the overall budget. An atricle was posted here a while back that aslo stated the majority od campus based scholarships may well be 3 year as well, giving the batallion a chance to see how a perspective cadet does in the program the first year before awarding a scholarship.

Also keep in mind that there will probably be far fewer choices for schools this time. The first board went as usual, offering multiple schools, my son had 5 choices from the first board. The second board gave well over hlaf of the scholarships with only one choice of school. Many have indicated that it will be the same if not a higher percentage of one school offers this board. There is a possibility of a transfer to a different school but it can be difficult depending on where you want to transfer, look around this board, a couple ROO's have posted information about transfers.

Good Luck.

Congratulations to your son. It will be an exciting year for him next year.

Q re: 3 yr. AD scholarships:

With the 4 yr. scholarships, there are three commissioning options:

- National Guard
- Army Reserves
- Army Active Duty

Is this the same with the 3 yr. AD scholarships?

The 3 year is only different in the fact that it kicks in the 3rd year and you have to maintain a 2.0 overall, 3.0 in ROTC classes, and pass the PT test. The first year still counts to your OML standings

Thank you all! DS is pumped.

My bet for the Mar. 8 board it Thursday, April 14. The January 4 board came out on a Thursday as I recall.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!! :thumb::thumb::thumb:

Yea patentesq! That is fantastic! It must be a huge sigh of relief to have one decision made.

I am so proud of all of our sons and daughters for even considering the military path. I do not come from a military family, our son will be the first, and I feel blessed to have a young man with a great head on his shoulders and a burning desire to serve his country.

DS met with an Army reserve recruiter today to discuss in more detail the SMP program as his backup option. He was so excited about it and only stopped talking so he could get to JROTC Raider team practice! Lord help me, I see his passion, but I am not ready. I know it isn't about me, but I thought I could ease into the role of "Army Mom" over 4 years of college. He is so anxious to jump in, I worry that active duty may come sooner than later.

My emotions are all over the place today. I am thankful for this forum, NONE of my friends here have kids looking at the military, and a couple of my friends are very anti-military, so I am limited on who to talk to. So..thank you for bearing with me through this roller coaster:smile:

Just had and email conversation with CC and they said the results will be posted by the end of the month.

I am right in saying that I received a scholarship if I received a DoDMERB qualification letter for Army ROTC but haven't received a letter from the Army yet, correct?

I wish that was the case. In the past (following the October board) DoDMERB packets were sent to, what were considered, "desirable candidates". However, becoming DoDMERB qualified is not the same as being offered an AROTC scholarship. I'm in that same boat-been physically qualified since December, but still without a scholarship offer.
The DoDMERB site will reflect your physical qualification for AROTC, but the actual scholarship status will show up here:
https://schlr4yr.usarmyrotc.com/scholarshipstatus/
There will be a change from "interview" statement to "check DoDMERB" statement if a scholarship is headed your way.
Hopefully scholarship offers will be announced from the March 8 board soon.
Good luck!
