March 8th, 2011 AROTC Board

I am not at all optimistic. After having been turned down by the Marine Scholarship board, even though my DS was told "there is no way in h** you won't get it" by the district Marine folks; in addition to being told by an elected official from Washington that the number of white males receiving ROTC scholarships will be very minimal this year…… I am not at all optimistic. Although it would be great, we are moving forward as if the AROTC scholarship will not happen either.

My DS busted his tail to earn it, and his credentials for scholarship are far - far above the min requirements. However, he was told that no matter how well you did, you can’t change your gender or race…..

patentesq, I opted for the bullet-chucker job over the bullet-stopper position...

I always wondered why Artillery was called "The King of Battle", while everyone referred to the Infantry as "The Queen of Battle." And these were the days before DADT!!

Hey,

If anyone is going to be a freshman AROTC at the University of Alabama Tuscaloosa this fall,
my DS and 2 other future cadets are looking for a 4th roommate. Riverside dorm the last I heard.
Engineering, Anthropology and a Quantitative Economic major...what a mix:eek:

PM me

Good luck to those who are waiting and Congrats to those who are done waiting

Too bad I have a DD who is also going to BAMA. I suggested she room with someone else in ROTC so they can get each other up in the mornig for PT!

Sitting in the same boat. Both as far as credentials and natural disposition. Should this not pan out favorably, SMP is the next best thing. Just not as excited about spending a summer at basic when after being told my application was so strong.
I suppose it isn't over until the resident Fat Lady at Ft. Knox sings.

GoinBroke, keep your head up!! My DS got dinged for NROTC as well, but did receive an AROTC offer from the January board. I am certain the AROTC folks have different evaluation criteria than the NROTC folks and that the Army doesn't have the same pressures that the Navy/Marines do.

I was in the Coast Guard....they didn't trust us with bullets.

Well they did give us just a few, enough to throw at the drug runners.

Hey now wait a minute! I thought the all Armed Forces were equal opportunity and that race/gender, etc. was NOT a factor whatsoever? That's what our ROO told us. This should be the "whole person" concept without any emphasis on color or polkadots!

Can't handle the stress of hitting the refresh button over and over again. Going to sign off and check later. Is it too early for a cocktail?? I think I need one...

RAINDEEI... congrats.. still waiting here. Out of currosity, did you recieve a 3 or 4 year... Was it you #1 choice?? Let us all know... tks

Thank You!!

This is the only thing that it says
"You have been offered an Army ROTC Scholarship. We must receive your acceptance/declination by the date in your letter or the offer will be withdrawn. Your name will be sent to DODMERB the day your winner letter is printed. There will be about 72 workweek hours prior to being able to see your name in the DODMERB system."
I do not know if I revived a 3 or 4 year and my 1st choice was VMI and second choice was the citadel. But it doesn't say what school.

I did the hump-it-your-self artillery (mortars)
Hump-it-queen?

I thought it was a Chess reference, Queen can maneuver, King can not.

I heard that there is one (?) freshman female scholarship cadet... Yours?

Congratulations.

You will find out what year and school soon probably from the ROO at the school first and then by official letter.

If I remember right, you received an appointment to the AFA as well, have you made any decision as to which way you will go.

Yes I did, and USAFA is my first choice. So I will be declining ROTC.
Good Luck to everyone!

We are hoping. But if someone already knows it is not my daughter. No notification or status change yet on the CC site...Even if she doesn't get this. She is going to show up ready and try to get a campus based scholarship.

Anyone know how long on average it takes to receive the official letters? I'm going on vacation soon and would hate to have to wait till i get back to see which schools I got scholarships to.
