I do not mean to get off topic but I was wondering if anybody could give me a clear-cut answer as far as offers go. My status has not changed from the "Please contact a professor of Military Science for an interview etc." Should I assume that I did not recieve one or are they still being awarded? It is getting to be decision making time. Thanks

Elum17. Wish I had better news for you, but it appears that it is over. The last offer reported on this forum was Monday evening. Being Thursday and no activity and with "winner letters" in the mail I would suspect that this is it for this year. You can call CC and ask them. I have found them to be very honest. The best time to call is around 9:15am est. I wish you the best.

My scholarship letter states that my Citadel scholarship is a 4 year, and my VMI is a 3 year. Mine is engineering-major conditional.

Hey, so there were actually a lot of status updates on monday and tuesday and a very few on wednesday and i heard of one where there status update was today. And no it wasn't updated yesterday and they just checked today-the girl said she'd been checking every few hours or so. But I agree, call cadet command, and maybe a few different ROOs because no one seems to be on the same page. I had my ROO tell me offers were over on tuesday morning when that was not the case. At this point however I'd talk to your PMS at your school of choice about on campus scholarships. The Major at my school said that the school is not allowed to officially tell you if you're on their list or not until wednesday BECAUSE all the notices haven't been sent, even though based on this forum there have been other schools that have told applicants when they supposedly weren't supposed to. I haven't heard anything yet either, and I plan calling on wednesday to do everything in my power to secure an on campus scholarship as soon as possible.

Allright thanks guys I pretty much knew that was the case but I just wanted some kind of confirmation so I could mentally move on and focus on my ROTC future with SMP. Thanks to all of you for info and support.

Good luck to you and all the others planning SMP/Guard/Reserves and competing for 3yr AD on campus. DS is will be right there with you. As Pima keeps reminding all of us, the dream doesn't die until you quit trying.:thumb:

it is all over
Well, it does appear things are over from Cadet Command, however, it is far from over for each campus' PMS and each campus budget.

Some campuses might have a 3 yr. scholarship to offer RIGHT NOW to those whom they have spoken with, and want to have in their unit. If scholarship candidates have had the good experience of speaking repeatedly with the PMS of a larger HOST unit (the PMS who controls the budget for multiple campuses), then that PMS, if it works for his/her budget, can offer a 3 year today to the candidate that CC passed over.

Keep contact with Host PMSs, and faith, alive.

Why does my scholarship to VMI have "3-year AD" next to it while my Citadel offer has "4-year," with no "AD" next to it? Does that mean that I would have to do active duty with the VMI one, but I'd be given a choice with the Citadel one?

Your scholarship to The Citadel is a 4 year scholarship. Your scholarship offer to VMI is a 3 year Advance Designee Scholarship.

To borrow from Jcleppe, here is what you will have to do for the 3 year AD scholarship.

Maintain a 3.0 in all MS classes freshman year
Maintain an overall 2.5 in college classes, Some have stated a 2.0
Pass PT test (This is something you need to be prepared for)
Attend all required MS classes freshman year (Better go to the non required ones too)
Keep out of trouble, no legal issues. A traffic ticket with a fine over $250.00 can even be a problem.
Recommendation from the PMS.

As you can see there are more variables with the 3 year, that's why they call it an AD, Advanced Designee Scholarship. They designate the scholarship to the cadet as long as they meet the requirements and receive a recommendation from the PMS. The bad part is that they have to worry a bit more about getting hurt and changing their dodmerb status for the entire freshman year and following summer.

That AD has nothing to do with active duty... It means advance designee read your letter and you'll see it saying that.

Can you get an on campus 4 year scholarship?

I would highly suggest getting in touch with the ROO at the school that you are going to and discuss your situation with them. Have you been in contact with them in this process?
They are the ones who are going to be the most help to you at this point. They will know how they have done things in the past and how they may be doing things now.

Ohio, you are an inspiration.

Prepare yourself for the worst, and move on with your life. If the best happens, GREAT! If it doesn't you will be sitting better off.

Great advice, Pima. What's this "moving on" business? I haven't kept up to date on this thread this week, and it seems darn impossible to go back and read all the posts after the explosion of discussion. Why not just say, "Hey, I'll post whenever I'm bored!"?

Pima's "moving on" has to do with a series of post that took a minority affirmative action turn -- the discussion was put to rest that our thread isn't the place to discuss which, if any, minorities were awarded scholarships above other white, male applicants -- page 162'ish if you want the blow by blow account.

We support each other and the applicants that come here to be reminded they aren't in this alone. It has been a year for the books in a lot of ways. Once again, go after the prize, commission, how you got there won't define you or your career. Good night all. Transfers you are in my thoughts daily!

Academy grad here with son that got 4 yr. Thot I'd share stats for future award seekers.

3.25 weighted Gpa - unweighted much lower
mediocre SAT (not terr / not great)

several sports w/varsity + some Capt's
good vol work (tutors refugees from Africa)

crushed pt stuff (mile in the low 4's - lots of PU's and SU's)

Job to help support fam

- think I've seen kids with MUCH better stats that didn't get a scholarship - I will say that kid is a great interviiew AND unbelievable writer.

For next year I'd say - make sure you meet the min for gpa and sat and you're in the mix - after that focus on resume and interview (as well as submitted statements + PT)

Really pleased for your son but it makes me wonder what CC are looking at. A weighted GPA of 3.2 is pretty low in most high schools, and I am presuming his unweighted was well below 3.0.

I am sure he is a fine young man with good leadership qualities but with those academic stats he would struggle to get into most colleges. Also many kids struggle a little when they step up to college level, and their GPA takes a dive. I am sure he has the character to be an army officer but its a huge risk on CC's behalf to offer a four year scholarship with those academics.
