    Just hung up with my DS. He informed me that their Commander announced today that due to the current lack of funds there will not only be no ICSP this semester, but there are no funds for the upcoming field training.

    While he expects that it more than likely by the time summer rolls around they will have come up with the funding for field training. The number of EA's however will be reduced to an undetermined number due to not only the funding issues, but the uncertainty of the size of the AF in the near future.

    Has anybody else heard anything?

    We were told at the beginning of the semester that there would be no ICSPs this semester and I've been told by several POC that we would not be getting paid this summer for FT. Apparently, cadets that went to FT last summer were told that they would be the last ones getting paid for FT until they get the budget for it.

    There is a big difference between not getting paid for field training...and simply not going to field training... at least for my DS it (FT) has never been about the money!

    Very true. Getting there and doing well is its own reward...but it still would have been nice to get that paid government vacation:wink:.

    From what has come down our CoC - Field training will be reduced to either 26 days or 22. (I've seen emails for 22 days, but have heard others hearing 26 days)

    From what I understand, in order to get paid you have to be on the governments time for at least 1 month, or 28 consecutive days. By them reducing the number of training days below the original 28, cadets will not get paid for field training but will still receive travel vouchers if traveling long distances to an airport. Room & board, and food is still included in the training so even with out getting paid you're still being taken care of.

    Hope this helps :)

    Got word from Cadre a few weeks ago that Field Training is now 22 days. Also, got told a few days ago that spots for Non-Tech+Non-Rated cadets will be very limited.

    Huh? The AFSC boards won't meet until after the cadets finish SFT. I.E. Non-rated board doesn't meet until the cadet is a 400 or @9 months prior to graduation.

    Right now AFROTC is thinking about adding a Rated Non-Technical Board where non-tech majors who want a rated slot will compete for EA before the rest of the Non-techs would. The estimate for the amount of EAs going to non-techs is at 20% so it would be slim pickings.

    Interesting. How will they stop them from gaming the system though? For example they can say they want rated, but when it is time to apply for rated boards they can just bust the TBAS so badly that the AF won't pick them up for rated and they can go back to being a non-rated slot.

    I am not shocked by this occurring because when you look at the AF's news release for the class of 14, they are releasing non-rated cadets with a new harm, no foul stipulation. IOWs if on scholarship and they agree to release you from commitment they will not request the money back.

    The thing with these type of programs is you don't know how many will opt and if they don't meet those numbers what is their next step?

    Sole,

    Since this thread started @ 3 weeks ago, and I believe it was known @ 3 weeks ago that it was announced the reduction in length this came out via AFROTC HQ.

    The non-tech/non-rated EA slots might be a slow leak coming from their det. leadership.

    I will say as a spouse of a now retired O5, the one thing I learned when he was in the ADAF, rumors typically tended to become reality sooner or later.

    I would not dismiss this, but on the flip side, as I stated in my post, how will this work if cadets decide to game the system and say: Yes, I want rated.
    ~~~ Will they now hold a mini board using the AFOQT to decide if they are going to be offered the chance to take the TBAS as a 300?
    ~~~ What if after SFT they come back and say I want non-rated? Do they sign paperwork, and are told like tech scholarships, to switch back you will need approval?
    ~~~~~ If that is the case, and they bust the TBAS on purpose, what now? Dis-enrollment their 400 yr? Payback?
    I would love to know those answers, because to me my questions are common sense.
    This thread ties back to the 14 yr group releasing non-rated cadets. It is saying to me, that MPC has a clog in the pipeline for non-rated, and are expecting it through the FY16.
    From what I understand what my cadre told to us if you volunteer for the rated non-tech board and you fail to get a rated slot, it is an automatic dis-enrollment.
    So are you saying that you will be required to declare rated or non rated as a non tech before EA selection now? Not sure how that would work since the rated board results don't come out until spring of your 300 year?
    You are not required to declare rated or non-rated but those who volunteer to compete for a rated slot would go through a board before the rest of the nontechs. Those that didn't volunteer to go rated before field training but want to after will still be able to compete for a rated slot while those that volunteered beforehand cannot switch to a nonrated. I think that its a way to push any non-tech that is on the fence of competing for a rated slot to go for rated. It's definitely gonna be a factor for me personally and for many 200s that I know. If this proposal actually becomes reality, I think that it would be a win-win-win situation for the Air Force as they would fulfill their rated requirements, decrease the non rated pipelines and if the officer corps is still saturated they can eliminate some cadets that didn't make the cut for a rated slot.
    Thanks for the clarification, looks like another new twist in the EA selection process. I guess this rated twist only affects non tech majors, correct?
    I wonder if 200's are considering what many did back when the EA rate was 55%, jump ship to AROTC. Some have tried in the past yr., but AROTC was saying there was no room at the inn.
    It is a hard decision for someone that is on the fence because they are talking about 4 yrs of the pressure cooker for boards, exams, etc. with no guarantee that they will remain in the AF.
    Additionally, many 200's may already know that they medically do not qualify for a FC1 physical. That leaves their options limited as a non-tech regarding applying for a rated.
    Finally, Alpha you are right it is a win-win-win for the AF. However, remember their belief....service before self. IOWs their needs will always come 1st no matter what when it comes to the individual.
    Anyone else heard anything about this? I've heard nothing about 200's applying for rated, but then again, like Pima said, a lot of things I hear "rumored" on here end up being true so..
    undflyboy, if it makes you feel better my DS has not heard anything about the Non-Tech/Rated Board mentioned at his DET either. Then again, EA packages don't go in until sometime early next year, so there is still time.
    Most dets. do end of semester reviews, it maybe at that time they will discuss it with you in a 1 on 1 scenario.
    Every CoC has their own way of dealing with issues, unless it comes down from high as a directive to do on a certain date.
    ~~~ I.E. SFT selections will state a drop date. The CoC may know on Monday, but they are told release day is Wed. at 8 a.m. EST.

    My best suggestion is to ask your cadre if this is true. For all you know those that have been told this may have translated IF into fact. IOWs the CoC said the numbers will be cut and one of the options is doing this non-tech board. In reality, that is an IF, but the shock and when heard it was converted into WILL in their mind.
    ~~~ Add into the equation that AFROTC is doing a VSP for the class of 14, it is easy to see why the IF was not heard as a maybe, but as a fact.
    ~~~~~~ No flaming me if a poster was told WILL, just saying another reason why they have heard nothing yet.

    I don't know about this yr., but typically the CoC is going to have their rack and stacks sewn up before the cadets leave for winter break. It will have a small flux because they may wait to see their final gpa for fall semester when it comes down between ranking someone number 4 and someone number 6, if number 6's cgpa goes up and 4's drops.

    Their paperwork has to be in with enough time to input the records/profile for the board selection. Big picture is @2300+ are boarded. That is why there is the delay of submitting and meeting the board. It will than take a few weeks for the release.

    The melee from last yr. with such late results release may mean they will push it up this yr. to the time frame it was 2 yrs ago. @1st week of March release.

    For those up for SFT, here is my advice. Move forward as if you are selected.
    When our DS(scholarship cadet, DoDMERB Qualified) was selected he had to get a short physical just like everyone else. Some colleges have health care on campus that can do it, so look into it. They were given a very short window, he had to get 4 shot boosters done. They weren't due until July, but since SFT Max 5 and 6 are in July and Aug. he had to get them done. His college had no appointments available so he had to go off campus. It is a pain, if you don't know like we didn't know.

    Had we known this we would have had him get his shots done with his doc over the winter break. That way all he would have had to do was go to his college for the check the eyes, ears, nose and throat type of physical, and sign off on his shot record.
    ~~~~ 2 of the shots he needed boosters for were required to live on campus as freshmen. H1N1, and Mennococcal (SP?). Tetanus was the 3rd, and I can't remember the 4th.
    Hope going off topic for a second discussing the required physical prior to SfT will assist in getting your ducks in a row when it comes to the paperwork for SFT.
    I also would say to the folks, think about buying a new pr. of service blues pants for them in the spring. They will give them a 2nd pr., or at least they did for our DS, but by buying new blues in piece meal, when they commission they will have a new set and can hand back the uniform they have worn for 4 yrs.
    ~~~ We did that for our DS. We purchased a new shirt, and pants as B'day gifts (had SFT in hand by his B'day).
    ~~~ We purchased his Mess Dress his 300 yr. and corframs for Xmas.
    By the time he commissioned the only thing he kept was the service jacket. They do give a BAS for them, but it will never cover what they will truly need to purchase. He did go rated, so had he not, we may have switched it up regarding what we purchased.
    So I'm an AS200 and at my det, we just got an email yesterday afternoon from our commander about the EA selection. Apparently (if I am correctly deciphering the ARMS message he attached) there will be four separate boards meeting:
    1. Technical
    2. Foreign Language
    3. Nurse
    4. Non-tech
    5. Possibly rated (possibly because this is not the actual rated board, just the board to get an EA which will allow you to go rated).
    We were told we have to decide which board we were going to go up for by 22 Feb. I'm most likely going Tech since I'm a Mechanical Engineering major.
    The boards are supposed to meet 11-14 Mar 2014 and results will be released on 22 Mar.
    Oh we got the dates for FT 2014 too:
    Max 1: 21 May - 13 June
    Max 2: 4 June - 27 June
    Max 3: 18 June - 11 July
    Max 4: 2 July - 25 July
    Max 5: 16 July - 8 August
    Max 6: 30 July - 22 August
    Anyway, hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions.
