You may. Mechanical engineering. And all schools he applied to are engineering schools.
I have a theory, which is based on suspicion only. Two of the top four schools he listed were Notre Dame and Vanderbilt, which he knows now were out of his range. Notre Dame was his #1 school. I told him not to do that. He disagreed. ....but I digress.
However, the second and third schools were Western Michigan and Univ of Michigan; both well within range, and easy admissions for him. Unfortunately it is not possible to change schools on the portal after the first board deadline.
I think school choices may have made a difference. We are optimistic he will get the scholarship this board, and cross fingers as it would be a nice option for him, and a nice achievement nevertheless. West Point is clearly the plan, especially now that he has his appointment, and he is still waiting on USNA too. I must say though, he was pretty fired up about attending Western Michigan and doing ROTC before realizing he didn't get the first board scholarship. Then he visited WP and is pretty stoked about that.
FYI, his essay was, in my opinion, outstanding. I would share it if he wins a scholarship, but think it would be poor form before.
