NROTC Marine Option Scholarship Notification

Yesterday I received an envelope in the mail with a red leather folder with a certificate from the Commandant, official acceptance letter, and about 20 other pages of paper work to fill out and send back. I got it about a week after my RS's XO told me I got the scholarship. I live in TX (8th Recruiting District) If it helps, school choices were:

1. Rice University
2. UCLA
3. Texas
4. USC
5. MIT

The letter specifically says "Your scholarship has been assigned to the NROTC unit at Rice University."

Congratulations on the OFFICIAL notification. Seems that the Western Districts are reporting in pretty promptly!

VMI82: My DS is NROTC Marine Option class of 2015 (He is Junior now). He told me there were approx 250 MO's at Mtn Warfare school this summer. I would guess that all told his class has about 265 allowing for some who couldn't make the training, injuries, etc. Assuming there was some attrition along the way, I would guess they may have selected 280 or so originally.

This is, of course, a shot in the dark but might provide some perspective.

Good guess on the portal changes. It is likely they are being updated and you should see something soon.

thnx Grunt!

you are right, a 'typical' class would be 250'ish ... but in these lean times I do not know what the final #'s will be from NROTC, Canoe-U, PLC and MESEP

so between 200 and 250

and to get 200 to 250 they probably have to offer 400 as candidates will have made multiple ROTC submissions, Service Academy, Sports Scholarships etc

and congrats USMC2018 on the envelope :) we look forward to getting the same (knock on wood, this week)

PS - if any of you have issues or questions make sure you ask for option #9 Melissa at Pensacola as she is MUCH more pleasant than the Navy LT (who calls himself "LT. Bad Cop" - yikes :) )

My DS was notified via email about 1 week ago that he did not receive the scholarship. He went through the 4th MCD (Baltimore). Hope this helps.

DS was notified in the second week of December that no one out of his recruiting area made the first board. He's in the 8th MCD and the RS is out of Oklahoma City. His specific area (Tulsa) also may include some of KS and MO, because he saw a lot of kids from out of state during interviews.

The first board is pretty tough from what I hear. My son had a 287 PFT, is in top 7% or so of a class of 1200, Leadership positions in Young Marines, City Council, national marching band. Straight A's in all classes including AP and Engineering work. Got a great endorsement from CO of recruiting station.

The email he got basically said hang in there for the second board in February.

Any word from District 6 applicants? We've yet to hear anything and get "Your application is at the Marine Corps District for Board Selection" when checking status.

Wish I'd joined this conversation earlier and certainly appreciate everyone's input.

Not for me....it's DS (NathanClassof18) that's applying. His choices are UT Austin / Texas A&M. It changes each week which is his favorite.....Believe he put them down in that order though for the application. Unless he didnt, then I am wrong, but if he did, I am right ...

Still no word for me. In the first district, application screen shows up blank.

I dont know if this question was already answered, but I couldn't seen to find it when looking through previous posts, how did you all first find out that you or your son/ daughters received the scholarship? Also, just curious, for everyone who hasnt gotten word yet, what are your guys plan B if you dont recive the scholarship? Im weighing my options and not sure what my next move would be..

Go back through and read this thread. Several received phones calls; some got e-mails.

Congratulations to the latest round of scholarship selections!

To those who haven't heard yet, keep the faith. I suspect the announcements from round 1 are just about complete but there will be a second board. Hang in there.
