Official USAFA Class of 2016 Appointment thread

My Son's Friend

I'm from CA-01 as well. Happy to hear Thompson gave an appointment already! Were you (whoever got the appointment) the principal nom?
Hello,
It was my son's friend who received his nomination from Congressman Thompson and who just received his appointment to USAFA. I don't know if he was the principal nominee or not. But I do know he is an outstanding young man who earned and deserves this wonderful opportunity bestowed upon him just as others who receive their appointments as well. Good luck to all.
Cheers...

I just came across this forum while looking for others who have received USAFA Class of 2016 Appointments. I've added our son's information below. He received a personal call from Congressman Boustany on Feb 2, 2012, and the BFE the following week....signed and returned....his dream come true. Congratulations to everyone!

Appointment offered

How long did it take for the appointment status to change after signing and sending in the offer of appointment? Been going on 10 days now since it was signed and sent with no status change.

^^I want to say it was 2-3 weeks before DS's acceptance of appointment showed up on his application page. It did seem like a long time. I knew it had been delivered to USAFA though as I always send any items with delivery confirmation. Just a habit I got into with DD in 2010. It eases the mind ever so slightly.

Does anyone have any idea how long it takes before we receive the second BFE? My DS status says Appointment Accepted and I still see him checking the mail everyday for another BFE.

Our DS contacted his councilor today because when he tried to email the Academy his shot records, the email address that was given to him in the online appointee guide would not work. The councilor told him that they had not activated that email account yet (although the instructions in the guide told DS that Academy Immunization Clinic wanted the shot records within two weeks of acceptance of apointment). DS thinks that further postal material will be forthcoming sometime next month along with the mass mailings.

Thanks for the update. I appreciate it!:thumb:

Just received a BFE!!! I knew it was coming since I had a principal nomination, but still a welcome surprise. :jump1:

Congratulations!

On the principal nomination note, how likely is your admission if you have one? I received one, hit the averages on the CFA (did a few extra pull-ups and a bit faster on the shuttle/mile...a bit under on the push ups), and my academics/test scores are a good bit above average. Also medically qualified. My ECs are a little lacking as I grew-up overseas and simply didn't have the opportunities (but I did quite a few clubs in HS, have a pilot's license and do Olympic weightlifting, I did not play a varsity sport).

Sorry to derail the thread; I'm just very nervous about the BFE.

As long as you are triple qualified, you are required by law to be offered an appointment if you have a principal nomination. I'm sure they'll get to you soon as they work their way through the mounds of paperwork they probably have. See this link for faq's about nominations from USAFA's site. Let us know when you receive your appointment. :thumb:

Here's a quote from the link.

A Member of Congress has three types of nomination procedures available.
COMPETITIVE: All nominations up to ten received by the Academy, run competitively. The Academy selects the best candidate based on the slate provided.
PRINCIPAL/NUMBERED ALTERNATE: A Principal and up to nine numbered alternates may be provided. An appointment will be offered if the Principal meets the eligibility criteria. A Principal can not be passed over unless unqualified. Only then can the selection process move on to the Number One Alternate. This nominee cannot be passed over unless ineligible. The selection process moves on numerically until a candidate is selected who is qualified.
PRINCIPAL/COMPETITIVE ALTERNATE: A Principal and up to nine Competitive Alternates may be provided. A Principal cannot be passed over if eligible. If ineligible, the alternates run competitively and the best candidate is selected

BFE received today. I received a principal nomination a few weeks back so this was expected. 757 area code of VA.

How do you know if you have received a principal nomination? My applicant received three nominations: one from a congress member and two more from senators.
