President Trump, Commander in Chief. Thoughts?

To those worrying about the UNPRECEDENTED levels of angst in the country...(UNPRECEDENTED I tell ya!),
remember that after a previous election, about half a million Americans killed each other among the farms and villages of our nation.

As much as you may like or dislike the election results, things are not THAT bad.

Wonder how many folks know where Atropia is

Thanks for reminding me. My son inadvertently made eye contact with a female inhabitant of this realm, a grievous offense, with disastrous results for his squad. No eldak recondo for him.

Sorry But I have to ask....? Is Milly for real or just an agitator?

Despite my lack of experience as an actual agitator, I'm just gonna stick my neck out and suggest that, were Milly "just an agitator," she'd be unlikely to identify herself as such.

These are difficult questions and difficult times and to assert that this was "just another election" reveals a painful lack of awareness of what has just transpired, or worse, an embracing of all that Trump represents. Would a President Trump EVER in a million years gracefully and kindly shake the hand of a man who had questioned his citizenship and therefore the legitimacy of his presidency, years and years beyond the time that it could have possibly been a legitimate question, leaving only racism and self-promotion as his motivators? Yet, this is what President Obama did yesterday. Remember that Trump's favorite bible verse, according to him, is "an eye for an eye."

Read the newspaper. There is now clear and convincing evidence that Putin intentionally intervened in this election on Trump's behalf AND there was ongoing communication between Putin and many members of Trump's campaign staff. Add that on top of the blatant influence by the Director of the FBI, Comey, and you have a president who won election by showing us all how to treat women, minorities, and immigrants, reaching out to white nationalists, and when that was not enough, he benefited from the services of a foreign power and a presumably independent domestic law enforcement agency. This ought to frighten each one of us, regardless of political affiliation and regardless of whether we think Milly is just an agitator.

There is a new commander in chief who has said repeatedly that women do not belong in the military and if they choose that occupation, they should expect to be sexually harassed. A betting person would have to bet in favor of a lessening of the role of women in the military, at a minimum.

He asserted forcefully, repeatedly, that HIS military WILL torture.

While he ran on "draining the swamp" and opposed to lobbyists, BOTH are running his transition and headed to major leadership roles in his new administration. Guiliani has explained that the new president will need no congressional action to start building that wall - oh but did you know that net-migration with Mexico is actually negative....more leaving than entering? Wouldn't that wall be counterproductive in that case? And which one of us wants our son/child guarding that wall, shooting at anyone who breaches it?

Our democracy and our constitution are both fragile - it is too easy to say that our children, should they enter the USNA in service to our country, are pledging loyalty to the constitution not the president. Four years from now, our constitution and our democracy will look very different than it does now.

"Just an agitator?" Sigh. Sadly, much less. Just a concerned mom.

Although I don't think it is allowable under HIPPA, I would like to see the medical records of anyone who tried to sexually assault or harass either one of my daughters. Whether they are in the military or college. Ice Hockey is a good teacher. Grow up and get over it and I hope you will get a lot more elections to complain about. I complained about some but lived through many.

See what happens when you give everyone trophies and participation ribbons.
Back to the Military (Happy Veterans Day). I gave my DD this advise when she started applying to the military service academies . The main goal of the military is to kill the enemy in a proficient manner. Ask your daughter if she's willing to lead or do this herself. I asked my DD after she returned from NASS and SLE if she still wanted to to serve her country. She said it would be an honor. I gave my DS the cadet the same speech. Remember it's "we not I the people" We elect our Commander in Chief. We take orders from he/she no matter who it is.. just a simple Marine..YAT YAS..

1. Lead from the front. Say, “Follow me!” and then lead the way.

2. Develop your team. If you know your people, are fair in setting realistic goals and expectations, and lead by example, you will develop teamwork.

3. Avoid Having Your Ego so Close to your Position that When Your Position Falls, Your Ego Goes With It!

4. Don’t take counsel of your fears or naysayers!

5. True satisfaction comes from getting the job done. The key to a successful leader is to earn respect, not because of rank or position, but because you are a leader of character.

6. Don’t Let Adverse Facts Stand in the Way of a Good Decision.

7. Always question authority, but question it respectfully.

8. A pint of sweat will save a gallon of blood.

9. Get mad then get over it!

10. Stay in top physical shape because physical stamina is the root of mental toughness.

-I have kept these rules and others rules handy for my DSs to use and follow.

worth the whole thread just to get this list!

This is not the place to discuss political matters. I support both sides of this argument and your right to say it but this is a forum to help those on their path to become an officer in the U.S. Armed Forces. Please take this argument elsewhere.

Enough already. I've been doing nothing but help Milly's DD to get to a safe environment such as UC Berkeley. I did extensive search on the USNA website and found nothing for "Safe Space". What will your DD do when she's upset. Please stop rambling about Trump and how much he hates women in the military. Thank you for your service, Veterans. God bless. Can I say God Bless, Milly?

I think as long as the conversation remains civil, this thread can continue since it is the Off Topic forum.

I do think no one will convince the other of their position so I see it going no where, but that's just my opinion.

Milly may be right about one thing...We don't need a wall in this country......We all ready have a Chasm so large and deep that no one can get across it!

Hey Milly you have over 3000 looks at this thread, you could start your own Blog :)

As a moderator I don't like to get involved in these types of discussions, but I've read or listened to a few things that are worth considering.

The first is from Scott Adams blog - Yes, that Scott Adams, the creator of the Dilbert comic strip

Did the United States Just Elect a Monster?

No. Clinton’s team of cognitive scientists and professional persuaders did a terrific job of framing Trump as scary. The illusion will wear off – albeit slowly – as you observe Trump going about the job of President and taking it seriously. You can expect him to adjust his tone and language going forward. You can expect foreign leaders to say they can work with him. You can expect him to focus on unifying an exhausted and nervous country. And you can expect him to succeed in doing so. (He’s persuasive.) Watch as Trump turns to healing. You’re going to be surprised how well he does it. But give it time.

Also heard this from Rush today (he may have been quoting someone else)
<quote>Trumps detractors do not take him seriously but takes what he says literally. Trump supporters take him seriously but do not take what he says literally.<\quote>

Trump is pretty inartful in his statements sometime, but I think over half of America understood what he meant.,

As usual, the truth is somewhere in the middle.

I did not vote for him, but he will be my DS's Commander in Chief come January 20th. For that I pray wisdom and good fortune to President-Elect Trump.

As an historical aside, on the morning of Secretary of the Navy James Webb's swearing-in to that office in 1987, bras were found festooned along Stribling Walk at the Naval Academy. SECNAV Webb, earlier in his career, had expressed thoughts about what roles women could or should, or not, play in naval service.

Here is the link to his Forrestal Lecture series speech where he mentions the "undergarments":
http://www.jameswebb.com/speeches-by-jim/usna-brigade-forrestal-lecture

Here is the link to early comments about women in the Navy and Marine Corps, the most famous (or infamous!) article:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wa.../jim-webb-women-cant-fight/amp/?client=safari

He was one of my SECNAVs, in my direct chain of command leading to the Commander in Chief. I channeled my inner fury into performance, performance, performance. I was determined to keep leaning on the door, in the hope that one day, it would open. I never questioned the authority of his office. My duty was to the oath I took and the sailors I led.

To his credit, his views changed over time, and he opened up seagoing billets previously closed to women. Those steps led to every warfare specialty, most recently SEAL and submarine, being opened to women, in the ensuing years. There continue to be heated discussions about his views and actions, see this as an example:

On the topic of underestimating former Presidents, I found this summary of one past president whose resume was underwhelming before taking on the Oval Office.

FDR’s legacy left big shoes to fill. How was this simpleton, Truman, from Missouri supposed to lead a nation at one of the most crucial times in our country’s history? This was a man who had failed in business three times before he was 36. This was a man who had to move his family in with his mother-in-law to survive. Harry Truman was a washed up failure in his late 30’s. A short time later he would become President.

By his late 50’s he had accomplished what few men could comprehend.

  • A successful closure of World War II, both in Germany and in Japan.
  • Instituting the Marshall Plan that created a democratic and peaceful Europe.
  • He championed the United Nations.
  • He sponsored the creation of Israel.
  • He fought the spread of communism in Korea and helped keep it out of Turkey and Greece.

He also had the "cajones" to tell Douglas MacArthur, "you're fired."

Of course, I know of no "groping" incidents involving Mr. Truman. Only playing the piano and hanging out with Lauren Bacall.
