From the link I posted:

About 30% of every incoming class is made up of those who are reapplying to USAFA.

No word yet

So,
Am I to assume that since my DS has not heard anything by now that he is not being appointed. And if so, will he receive something saying he is not accepted?

I wouldn't assume anything. Have your DS call his Admissions Counsler tomorrow and ask about his status.

Mom of USAFA Candidate & Falcon Foundation Recipient

We just got a BFE today for my DS's Falcon Foundation scholarship!!! :shake::yllol::shake::yllol::thumb:

We are so ecstatic about the news!!! :smile:
We stopped our mailbox stalking after we got the TWE in early April. DS got all excited about his Plan B school and sent in his SIR last night to make sure he had a slot by their deadline of May 1st.

DS's first choice is to go to Northwestern Prep as we live in Southern California. I hope we hear more great news about the Falcon Foundation scholarships and Preppies! My best to all here!

Hi Club Members!
I have been away for two weeks and have just had a chance to catch up on the forum. I hope everyone is enjoying senior year and I'm sure things are as hectic for you as it is around here with all of the "goings on". DS is working out like I've never seen before, preparing for ROTC and VT Corp. If he does not receive an appt. next year, it won't be due to a weak body! I am going to go back read through the posts made since I last checked in....I have a lot of questions about what other reapplyers are doing w/ respect to letters of rec., teacher rec., etc. Use the same people or different,etc. I guess it's like starting over but knowing a LOT more about the journey! :)

Welcome back. Yeah have the same questions. I am sure they would like to see some other recommendations. Or would they? In DD case the people that wrote her recs ofcourse know her way longer than the people that will get to know her over the next couple months-year. Also the essays are probably going to be very similar because the reason they want to join the USAF and AFA is going to pretty much be the same I would think.

Same questions here too. I wonder if they even look at the past application or will it be all new. Since it would be an application from a college freshman won't that mean new counselor and different board? What about the sports involvement - is a year-round AAU type sport good enough? I was a captain of my high school swim team but my future college choice doesn't have a swim team. Also the question about the letters or rec from high school teachers who know you as opposed to college professors who don't...:confused:...Thanks ahead of time to whoever can answer some of these questions

I've been wondering the exact same thing too - if anyone can shed light on this issue or has past experience which they'll be willing to share it'll be much appreciated! :smile:

I called the admissions counselor for DS since he is unavailable during their business hours. His counselor said she would pull his file. She said he would have to redo most things on the application. He had taken a few college classes while in high school and they can use the same transcript since he won't be taking any more classes there. She also said she can keep the reference letters. Pretty much everything else needs to be redone. Plus he has to wait until July 1 to reapply.

I was told to use highschool letters of rec and then if, by ~january we hadn't heard back to get a letter of rec from college professors/rotc cadre/advisors.

<BUMP> and Update

DS is admitted into a local 4 year college with an engineering program rated as having the biggest bang for the bucks (aside from the academies of course). Talked to the CO for ROTC and he said to call back at the end of summer and make sure to register for the Air and Space class. He just took the AP tests and won't get results back until summer. Felt he did well on Calc BC and Chemistry but thought that Physics ate him up. We will see.... In the meantime, he got hired on as Assistant Aquatics Director at Boy Scout Camp for 9 weeks.....and he (finally) finished up his Eagle!

First, call your admissions counselor and let him/her know that you will be reapplying. The sooner you call them, the better because you want to make sure that they save your application. When you reapply, submit letters of recommendation from different people than last time. The admissions board will take into consideration your previous 3 recommendations as well as your new ones. Admissions counselors are assigned certain areas of the country. You will probably have a different admissions counselor if you go to an out-of-state college, but that doesn't really matter.

When is the best time to reapply? I am going to a reg. university in the fall and wanted to know exactly what to do. I know it was probably my overall ACT score, I had a good GPA and was involved in tons of leadership activities in and out of school as well as athletics so I hope my GPA my first quarter will be a good reflection of what I can do. Any help would be great.

One thing to do immediately is to make sure your AFROTC CC knows your intention to re-apply.

I believe it is July that they re-open the files for the second timers. You need to remember the following:

1. Your DodMERB is clear for 2 yrs ~~~not an issue
2. You need to get noms again.
~~~Can be tricky because Sept. is a month when college kids are acclimating to the school. You should try to belt it out before entering. You don't want to be writing college papers and essays for noms at the same time, while studying for test, doing ROTC and attending football games. You could quickly find yourself stressed out, typically the grades are going to suffer.
3. Contact your ALO that you used this past yr. You may be assigned a new ALO, it is best to find out now if you will be re-assigned.
4. If I am correct, I believe that the AFA for college candidates need to submit 1st semester grades. Not sure of the college you are attending, but check to make sure they do quarters. Most do trimester or semester, not quarters. Again, nose to the grindstone.
My very best piece of advice is to get your AFROTC CC involved minute one. If you are attending a large det of 50 C100's and do not inform them of your intentions early on, they will not be keeping an eyeball on you to personalize the rec.
Also practice the PFT to form. Bat it out of the ball park. It will be a part of your WCS. ROTC cadets are not like the ALO or your HS coach, they are like AFA cadets, form matters! They are not going to count it just for the sake of counting. Many AFROTC cadets who did great on the CFA, do lower on the PFT because their elbows were not at a certain degree, a degree that they look at. This means you wasted energy and strength with a zero sum result since the form was incorrect. Run in all types of weather, unlike your CFA where you chose the day to take it, ROTC will determine the day. If it is raining, oh well. If it is 98% humidity and 90 degrees, oh well. The PFT is something you can train for and have complete control over. Every point matters for the WCS.
Btw...just a quick volleyball update for DS... finished regular season with a 22-1 record (44-3-0) and ready to begin regionals next week!
<BUMP>
Another update on the volleyball....Won Sectionals last night against a very good Naperville team. (Lost first game 19-25, won 2nd game after coming from behind 29-27 on a kill by DS, won 3rd after coming from behind again 25-21) Headed to State on Friday. (This is the first time a southern Illinois team has ever made it to state in boy's volleyball....) Will fill you all in how they do!
