Who is still waiting?

Big fancy envelope from Congressman in today's mail...... containing an invitation to a constituent reception.

I get the science and math course work

English and history ? Frosh and soph versions of those courses have become almost remedial.

So, what types of content have real lasting value for the USNA academics, as well as, being able to show college level success for a re-apply process?

English - writing, reading literature?
History - world or American?

USNA wants you to imitate plebe courses as much as possible. Thus, Calc, Chem, English, History. Yes, the science/math grades are more important. However, you don't want to take garbage courses as your 3rd and 4th (or 5th) courses b/c you can't do that at USNA. You could take high level language but skip the sociology, history of art (while hard, not relevant to USNA), etc.

English should include some amount of writing, but you can choose the course. History . . . plebes tend to take more World History than American, but the latter isn't terrible. Something to indicate you can handle writing and critical thought.

from feb. 2, 09 when DS began application to today, April 7, 2010, the arrival of TWE, DS's drive and spirit and commitment to endure the USNA application process never flagged or wavered, nor did his resolve to fulfill his dream of serving his country in the military - thanks to all on this forum for information, encouragement. semper fi

Oh my...Dear Karen...I am so sorry to hear of this!! I know how you feel...believe me...it is just like a grieving process, one minute OK, next, deep sadness for your son. My son is exactly like yours, committed, strong morals and very disciplined, has never even gotten a B on his report card from k-12 grade...straight A's...he is THAT disciplined. I believe they would make GREAT leaders of our country...we just have to wait and see what is ahead...good luck to your son...I am so sorry to hear of this news!:frown:

A different kind of TWE

Almost had a heart attack. Son received a TWE in the mail today from the USNA Admissions Office - Official Business. When he opened it, it was an invitation to a performance by the USNA Jazz Ensemble playing in our home state.

It had the look, feel and smell of the dreaded TWE.

I now appreciate first hand how those of you with wonderful young sons and daughters who have received the TWE feel. I also have a new found respect for those of you who've been able to post after receipt of the TWE to encourage others and find the positive in the situation.

Wishing the best for all of us.

Anyone else get this scare?

Yes, ours came mid-February...the notification that DS was scholastically qualified. After several moments of agony and wondering how to break the news, I held it up to the light. WHEW! It was a heart-stopper though!

Was away for a short vacation and just got back on. I feel like I know all of you and was really bummed to hear of the TWE's especially shortmom and harmi as I have been following your posts for some time. Moving forward is always better than waiting and I wish you and yours all the best.

Nothing yet...

Nothing in mail again today...no TWE or BFE. Have been following this thread and made the mistake of reading "April is Great Month" thread from last year. :frown:

Son gets home from track practice each day and quietly looks through the mail, then moves on. I try not to watch, but sometimes can't help it. What has really helped is that we have rallied around his NROTC MO option scholarship, gone to visit campus, lined up housing, pondered roommates, researched activities of the unit this year, etc. He is really showing excitement around his "Plan B" almost to the point that waiting for USNA has become a curiosity, not a fixation. I know it will be a crushing moment when the TWE arrives, but thank God he has another route to his dream laid out. Good luck to everyone!

Thank you mudvillemom...I appreciate that...we are still trying to figure out how and why, but son is moving on at the speed of light..LOL!!! He never was one to sit and let grass grow under his feet. I am always so proud of both of my sons (I have a 20 year old Pre-Med college student as well) as I know they will continue to make good, moral decisions and focus on the positives they have in their lives... I wish everyone waiting the VERY best of luck, and I am sure SOMEONE on here should be getting GOOD news soon...fingers crossed for all!!

The dreaded TWE came today... at least now the mailman won't have to run for cover every day. No time to worry about it... we have to move on to the backup plans. Good luck everyone!

Ditto

DH called with the news that the TWE is at home. Scrambling for back-up now since NROTC also fell through. Best of luck to everyone else here...

Another Maryland TWE

TWE received here in MD. What a long year it has been.

On to Plan B: Virginia Tech (engineering) on NROTC scholarship. Go Hokies!

I went ahead and documented our son's timeline for those who are just beginning the journey for next year. I'll post it in the "From NASS to TWE" thread for those who are interested.

Good luck to all still waiting!!!!! :thumb:

:frown: This is really hard to hear... best of luck to each of your amazing children. God bless all of you!

Hard news to hear indeed. My bet was on your son Kat in Idaho so I am sorry to hear but know that great things are in store for all of these young people.

Phone call

Sorry to hear about all the TWEs :frown: We just returned home...nothing in the mail but on our caller ID it showed the Naval Academy called but NO MESSAGE!!! What does this mean?? Any advice?

nothing in mail today, but our mail is notoriously slow, so that doesn't calm my nerves. Lots of TWE's...seems like it's just a matter of time! Who wrote: "April is the cruelest month"?

Still Waiting

So sorry to hear so many TWE's for such qualified kids. Thanks for sharing all the info. and ups and downs. I just found this site a few weeks ago and have been reading with interest. Our DS is still waiting. We are in VA. He is anxious but very busy with school and soccer and of course enjoying his senior year. Has several options but USNA is #1 choice. Not certain if this is good or bad at this point. Best of luck to all!

TWE received. DS is very disappointed. USNA has been #1 choice since early middle school. Like many posters he excels in academics, leadership, sports, and community service. Quite frankly we are in shock. Tough not to be upset. It is hard to stop fingers from venting......

We are proud and excited to move forward - University of Michigan NROTC Scholarship.

Good luck to all. This site has been great source of information and support through out the process. BGO's, Moderators are spot on with their advice and parents/candidates/current and past Mids have been awesome.

Thank you to all. So long my friends. Time to clean up " my favorites" box. Go Blue!!!!
