I am a founding member and joined on June 9, 2006. The core group of people that first joined SAF came from the College Confidential service academy boards. If the founder of SAF wants to be publicly known he/she will post their story.

Thinking about it I recall that was how I found out about SAF. Back in 07 CC was a hopping site for the SA's, but now it is probably close to non-existent. In 07, everyone on the SA portion of CC referred this site to go to and like the Pied Piper we all followed.
Wasn't JAMZMom also a founder regarding membership?
Here's the old board to see how much of a ghost town it is now! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/u-s-service-academies/
Not only did you and the original bunch come over from CC, but y'all left bread crumbs to bring other members (myself included) over in later years. I think if we keep (I have) leaving reference to this forum there, we will keep attracting candidates/families who are just entering the process and will continue to help build this board.
It is a great nod to this site that if you google a specific question, it probably has been asked here and it will show up on google.
Let's not forget the moral support here too... This forum is designed for those attempting the path less traveled and it is full of "how to get there" info for those that have to go to plan B or plan C.. Without SAF I doubt I would have made the good decisions with my son when the scholarships didn't come through. The honest opinions and factual info found only here has been priceless. If you've never gone to or sent a kid to college before, much less one wanting a military career, it can be an overwhelming undertaking. I have never been afraid to share an opinion or experience here either. If something posted is wrong the Mods or someone else will correct it respectfully. Finding info on the internet is never a problem... finding good info is rare except here.Time2,
I agree, many did leave CC due to the mods over there. Many also came here because almost every thread posters would link this site and tell the OP you have a better chance of finding the answer on SAF. I don't think the mods ever placed the links, it was always posters that found this site more informative.
The other reason I think it became such a success over here was many of the posters were cadets, AD or retired, and at the very start they always had DoDMERB, with an expert to answer the questions. That is key because it is such a hard thing to navigate.
To me it was the knowledge of the posters that made me leave CC. CC felt more like hit or miss or the blind leading the blind.
