STEM?

Anything??
Nothing here one way or the other, maybe they wait until the last day to send all the declines?
We are still waiting. My son is a raising junior, I think few younger kids might have heard? Anyway, it is highly competitive and more geared towards kids in underrepresented communities.

I think my kid forgot to push "submit" after he printed his completed application the first night it came out. He said he has no "you successfully submitted your application" email. Oh, well. At least he has one more year to apply, and has learned a valuable lesson.

Oh no, now he willl know better & be very prepared for his college applications.

@ktnatalk,
I actually just checked the BMR I am taking and it is indeed from February 2002. Not sure if I'm using the wrong one (I sure hope not) but I found the link on homeport.
Here's the link: http://homeport.seacadets.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=3047507
I will email my division now that I've noticed how outdated it is. Also, I am doing all 15 assignments. I guess all cadets are being taught this...
I have been issued my whites and will receive my female combination cover. I'll get my dixie when we transition in October, although I apparently need one for RT, so I'm not exactly sure.

Yes, it is the right BMR. They have not been updated in awhile to say the least. I have no clue when they will be updated. NHQ would have to redo the answer keys and make a new set of petty officer exams.

I just talked to some officers and instructors. They said it didn't matter and that the BMR and even the ones used in the 60s are still correct and relevant today.
I doubt if there is even 50% of correct info related to the Navy today!
I am curious... Could you explain how the information in those BMRs are inaccurate? Besides the uniforms, of course.

Oh, it's gotta be at least a little bit appealing, right?!?!
It's very appealing, but I am going to pass to others who are able and willing.

I don't want to take it out of context, but there are parts (e.g. Customs and Traditions) that this statement is correct, but not so much on others (e.g. Policies). You can't make a blanket statement about the relevancy of the book today like that.

I did not review every chapter in the BMR, just glanced a few. I am surprised there is a national level organization and they are not getting it updated or write a new one using the BMR as the basis.

If you take the BMR out of the discussion, I think Sea Cadets is an invaluable program.

Edit: what I'd hate to know is that those adults might have said that to you because of your age.

I understand - just thought I'd try!

You could email the national headquarters and let them know what you've found.

As a parent, I rarely have contact with the leaders except at parent meetings and volunteering. All communication is done by the kids through their chain of command; it's part of the leadership teachings to not have parents do things for them.....and it would be very awkward for a young Sea Cadet to tell his/her chain of command that they're being taught outdated material.

Sorry, not sure what you mean, would you care to elaborate? I have the feeling they don't like me and IMO they just wanted to get it over with and have me shut up. I bombard them with emails a lot too, so that doesn't help. :confused:
Now that I think of it, it was pretty odd for me, a recruit who's been in for twenty days, to tell them I am being taught outdated material. But it isn't their fault anyway.
If the differences between 2002 BMR and today's are not that significant, frankly, I don't care. I don't have a choice anyway and just need to get it done. Honestly, I don't think it's that big of a deal... but what do I know?
Also, we should hear back on STEM very soon. Hoping I will wake up to good news.

@OZZY

I was just thinking about all my Sea Cadet experiences with Volunteers because it is Volunteer appreciation week.
You unit staff is in fact volunteers so they have a busy life outside of Sea Cadets. Keep this in mind when interacting with them. I am sure they appreciate your enthusiasm. Read and learn from the BMRs they are actually kind of interesting. I have had a couple of good laughs on one of the other courses we do because it is still talking about the Cold War. But I just thought of it as a history lesson. I have a challenge for you. Find out who your squad leader is and start emailing them if you have questions. If they can not answer the question they should send it up the Chain of Command until you get an answer. Should being the operative word because they are most likely just learning how to lead. Also get the email of your CC so that if your squad leader is not answering at all you can talk to the CC but DO NOT jump directly to your CC or LPO.

I have been in Sea Cadets a few years and have read all of the manuals but I learn new things all the time. Its great you have questions but make sure you use your Chain of Command. Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions. Be forewarned I may send you to your COC or google on some of them. Others I would love to answer.

Thanks. Will make sure to PM you if I have any questions (and I will). The staff are pretty intimidating to me and feel like some lowly kid when interacting with them. Everything is just so confusing in the beginning and it would be helpful if they were more open and friendly but when everything falls into place and I get used to being a cadet I'm sure I will have a different attitude on this. I did forget they were volunteers and will keep that in mind. I certainly do appreciate them, but there are just so many things to take care of having just joined and it is a bit stressful. BMR is super boring and very time consuming as a slow test taker. I have been slacking and really need to get it done... Thanks for your reply.

I can't, and I don't want to put words in their mouths. I have nothing more to comment regarding sea cadets.

I will only say this again:
If you take the BMR out of the discussion, I think Sea Cadets is an invaluable program.

Nothing here as well. I'm guessing there will be a mass emailing this evening. I've only heard of people getting approval emails up to this point so we are starting to accept that she probably didn't get in.

A parent commented on a post on the Naval Academy Admissions Facebook page. She said they called and were told there is a large delay in reviewing submissions and they won't be done until the end of the week. No idea how valid but it seemed legit.

Thanks for posting that. If that is the case, then the admissions office should post something to that effect on FB, otherwise they will be flooded with calls beginning tomorrow!

Hurry up and wait! :p
