Ok,
1. Its great you are asking questions!!!
2. Yes, they pay you back after STEM is over
3. Since you are a recruit you will not be awarded advanced training credit until after you finish RT. This probably doesn't mean much to you so let me explain. You need advanced training credit to advance in Sea Cadets so STEM will count as your credit to advance you from E-2 to E-3.
4. You can Fail RT by quitting, not getting a high enough grade on all of the assignments or conduct( this is really hard to do), breaking a rule and getting kicked out or not passing your PRT.
5. Get working on your BMRs I tell my cadets to try and work on it everyday. Each assignment should take you about an hour. If you are stuck on a question and working on the computer use command F to search for key words.
6. I am going to attach the physical fitness manual. http://homeport.seacadets.org/display/Manuals/Physical+Readiness+Manual
In this you can find what to do with cadets that do not pass the PRT. This may give you suggestions on how to train. Also you can find the scores you need. You will need to meet the minimum requirements in every event but try and do national or presidential. The PT will be appropriate as long as you can pass the PRT. It should not be easy but it should be doable. I say should because some training commands have very easy PT and others have more challenging but appropriate PT.
7. As far as what you will do at RT it will vary by the Training Command. You will learn to march, military customs, PT, and spend a lot of time in classrooms. You will learn to make a rack, get dressed quickly, and square your meals. Your training command may have you do other, fun, activities. If you go over 4th of July they may have a party where you can relax for awhile and talk to other cadets.
8. The biggest thing I recommend for RT is take it all in stride. Try to keep a positive attitude and do your absolute best at all times. Also go in knowing that you will be challenged and that It will make you a better person. Everyone keeps asking me if I am nervous/scared for plebe summer. My answer is always No! I am excited for the challenge and the opportunities that I will have. I feel prepared for plebe summer because of my experiences at RT and other advanced trainings.
One more piece of advice talk to the Petty Officers in your unit if you have questions. They may seem like big scary people but If they are a good leader they will care about your success. I make it a point to ask all of the new recruits if they have questions or what they think they might want to do. Believe it or not your Petty Officers were once clueless recruits, I sure was.
