USAFA Class of 2023 Appointment Thread

Based of posts I’ve seen, it seems as though March 4, 11, 18, and 25 will be the dates to watch. Best of luck to all of these amazing young people. Getting this far was an accomplishment in itself.

Our son asked his USAFA admissions counselor if they rate candidates as 3Q and he had no idea what that term meant. Does someone with more knowledge than me [emoji3] about USAFA specific admissions procedures know if this is a term USAFA uses? If not, is there an equivalent? Just curious...

I contacted my admissions officer and he told me that USAFA does not send out 3Q letters. I am not sure if being promoted to the ‘candidate’ status on the portal is the equivalent to 3Q or not. My admissions officer blatantly stated I was qualified when I asked him that question.

To win appointment to the United States Air Force Academy, you must be of good moral character and meet high leadership, academic, physical and medical standards.

Medically Qualified

All candidates admitted to the United States Air Force Academy must meet the medical and weight standards for a commission in the United States Air Force. If you do not meet these standards as an applicant, you will be disqualified unless provided a medical waiver.

https://www.academyadmissions.com/admissions/the-application-process/medical-evaluation/

Academically Qualified

The Air Force Academy seeks individuals who possess exceptional academic prowess and leadership potential. Because we offer one of the most prestigious and respected academic programs available, academic admissions standards are high. The Admissions process includes a review of two major academic performance indicators:

Our students, or cadets, must maintain a strict schedule of study, athletic responsibilities, leadership and military duties. The challenging core curriculum sequence includes courses in basic sciences, engineering, humanities and social sciences. Your prior academic record should display well-rounded academic preparation for the Academy environment. Strong SAT or ACT scores indicate whether you are likely to succeed in balancing responsibilities across all aspects of Academy life.

These two academic factors combine to create your Academic Composite Score. This score is the most important component of our selection composite, weighted at 50%. A low PAR and low test scores, though they may be individually qualifying, will usually result in an academic composite score below our qualifying guidelines.

Physically Qualified

Physical fitness is key to success at the United States Air Force Academy, especially during Basic Cadet Training (BCT) and the fourth-class (freshman) year. Therefore, satisfactory completion of the Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA) is an important admissions requirement.

It might not be a term used by them. It is a term used on this site. USNA doesn’t have a 3q letter either.

But clearly you need to meet minimum academic, physical and medical standards.

So ... to answer the question ... if you have been medically DQ’ed by DoDMERB, you cannot get an appointment unless you receive a waiver. And if you aren’t DQ’ed, I would contact DoDMERB to get qualified.

Thanks @A1Janitor--we read all these sections on the USAFA portal of course. It's still a little vague, and you know this time of year makes people crazy because we are all just waiting. But thanks for the reply! We'll continue waiting. [emoji3]

Yes, we have been waiting for long. My son checked the anxiety , bullion on foot and back pain boxes in his form. By anxiety he meant being a little tense while taking class tests. He has had no treatment for any of the problems he checked. He just checked to be truthful and his remedial lists were sent twice and the processing times are just going on and on forever. He mentioned that he has not taken any treatment for his issues meaning they are not very significant or did not need medical attention . But no response from DODMERB . I do not know how I can help my son

Don’t see anyone from MA. Does AF send in appointments by state? Is there a way to find out to see how many from MA are currently enrolled and how many more can get in.

I would suggest you have your son call his DODMERB coordinator and ask about his status if his DODMERB status still says under review. They are very busy by also very willing to help if they can. Sometimes things get lost and they are still working some bugs out of the system since the upgrade this last summer. Good luck!

Curiosity, DS received appointment notice in portal followed by Criminal Background Check with a four-digit numerical identifier, would it be the number offered appointments to date?

My son did call the Coordinator and she said it’s under process. The status shows Remedial Requested but we have sent in what he have.

The time it takes for them to update again another remedial is requested and it goes on. Wonder if it all will be done soon by month end ready for the Mar appointment selections.

When I get to a desktop I can post more but 2019 compared to 2018 starting with week #6 2/4/19 vs 2/5/18 (beginning on Mondays):

2/4. 0 - 7
2/11. 1 - 4
2/18. 1 - 3
2/25. 0 - 6
3/4. 0 - 32
3/11. 0 - 23
3/18. 0 - 8

Based on last year, probably another week or so before it gets busy .
