Got one today.more letters home today?
Lots of us with kids at NSI 1 got short (30 to 60 sec) phone calls yesterday. My daughter said she’s okay and has learned a lot and she’s definitely looking forward to seeing us at graduation.
Is there another place to get information about NSI (another forum) or do you just know a lot of families that have kids at NSI?
Search for the "NROTC Parents" page on FB for lots and lots of sharing of info by parents . . .I saw pics put up on the NROTC Facebook page. Is there info up there as well from people who got letters or calls?
How much of that is official information, and how much of that are rumors? If it isn’t put out by the program, I have a hard time believing it. The military is notorious for holding its cards close to its chest and not sharing anymore than is necessary.Search for the "NROTC Parents" page on FB for lots and lots of sharing of info by parents . . .I saw pics put up on the NROTC Facebook page. I've seen posts about the kids needing to bring 5 copies of their orders with them to NSI. I asked my DS if he has his orders and he said he only has a travel itinerary and E ticket from Sato Travel. He contacted the admin assistant for his unit and she stated that she does not believe they get actual orders to NSI.
Does anyone know the answer to this? If my DS needs to get orders, he will only have Monday to get that done. Thanks

DD received an email the admin asst that had included a form “Request and Authorization for TdY Travel of DOD Personnel” which in box 8 stated “Type of Orders” - Invitational Travel and box 9 “TDY Purpose” -Training. And then with that same email was her travel itinerary from CWT/SATO.
I had read that a few were NPQ'd, but none DOR'd. Could be, but man--that's a lot of money to voluntarily give up for three weeks of unpleasantness. My wife is in the Facebook group for NROTC and NROTC Parents. There is some info related to attrition at NSI through medical or drop on request. I guess some kids are putting it in their letters home. It sounded a lot higher than I had expected. Over 10%. I think last year the Naval Academy lost 10 plebes total during Indoc and that program is twice as long as NSI. I'm guessing some of the loss is attributed to the kids being unprepared mentally for what was thrown at them when they arrived. I'd be curious to see if anyone else heard about the attrition rate and kids dropping from the program.
Well some folks decide it's not for them. Of 45 attendees, 10 dropped from my son's orientation some years back. Some of those were on scholarship. Others will not stay past the first year and some will, over time, do stupid stuff and lose their scholarship. You're right... it's a lot of money.I had read that a few were NPQ'd, but none DOR'd. Got a 60 sec call yesterday from DD. It was way too short. She mainly wanted to know if I was picking her up right after graduation as I am planning on attending or if she needed to ride back with the the group to then airport and as we were talking-she was delaying the message to someone. I was a bit afraid something might be wrong. I’m glad to hear others got the 60 sec call as well. No letters home received though.
