The Gunsmith Thread

A Texas police officer pulls over an old lady for a traffic infraction. He approaches the vehicle and asks her for her license and registration. When she gets in her purse, he notices a Smith & Wesson model 36 revolver in there, among the other items so he asks;

"Ma'am do you have a license to carry that handgun?"
To wit, she answers; "Absolutely, sonny it's right here" and she hands him that license as well.
So as a matter of course, he asks; "Do you have any other weapons in the car with you today?"
"Well, yes I do"
she responds. "I have a stun baton and bear spray in my driver's side door, a Glock 19 in the glove box, and an AR-15 right behind me in a hidden compartment that my nephew built for me...he's such a nice boy!...oh and a shotgun in the trunk."
The police officer is reeling. "What on Earth are you afraid of, lady?
She says; "Not a darned thing, junior!"

I got a Glock story for ya.

Back in the late 80's in Brooklyn (during the Crack Epidemic; when the hood' was "off the hook", as the kids say) a friend of mine made an arrest for Criminal Possession of a Weapon. The perp was in possession of a Glock 9 w/out pistol permit. Shocking, right?? Glocks were rarely seen then. We were still carrying revolvers. Anyway, a gun collar is usually an Excellent Police Duty medal (almost automatic) so he submitted the the medal request to the XX Precinct Honor Committee...where it was denied because, as they explained, "A Glock is a plastic gun"! So no medal for you!! LOL True story.

BTW: Looks like Brooklyn is still of the hook. Last nite for Brooklyn, 11 people shot in 5 separate instances; with the city totaling 15 people shot in 7 instances (1 each for Queens & da Bronx). Send in the social-workers!! & it's not even hot yet!

Not to one-up you or anything: Chicago - 18 people murdered in 24 hours.

and from Friday May 29 through Sunday May 31st, there were 85 people shot (24 fatally wounded) in The Windy City.

The CPD certainly have their hands full over there. I think you'd need a real partnership w/DOJ to take down the gangs federally on RICO charges...you know, follow the $$/drugs/guns/phony credit cards/etc.
I have seen the Feds come into a housing project, make 30-35 arrests....& afterwards, you could hear a pin drop!
When the perps realize they're going into federal court instead of state court, (I've been told) they start to cry, every time!

Numbers are up a bit, but Chicago has been a mess for years now.

Brought an M-1 Garand back to the land of the living recently. It had rust all over it, but was absolutely gorgeous when I got done with it.
It had "USMC" stamped on the stock with all the correct markings. It shot great, too. :)

Sadly, it doesn't come with a story. I always ask people if it was "Dad's gun" or "Grandpa's gun", to maybe get a little background before I send it back on its way. This one is just one of those guns "bought at a gun show 10 years ago" so wherever it has been and whatever history it had was lost in time, like tears in rain.

VERY nice work!!

It doesn't happen to have a "star gauge" barrel, does it?

You know, I didn't check. It did have these markings. Can anyone tell me which one is fake?
