Son just showed up OCS on Saturday. They are still quarantining the class for 14 days, as they didn‘t require the vaccination.

He is literally in BOQ room with a roommate and has not left the room since Saturday. He has had no hot food.......8 consecutive meals of boxed sandwiches. My son has to have TONS of calories in a day, and what he is getting to eat is not sufficient.

They haven‘t even been able to run, or do any cardio. ZERO options.

How can this branch, which prides itself on adaption, still be quarantining?

For many people there never seems to be enough to eat at OCS. Many, if not most, lose 15-20 lbs while there. Just as encouragement, tell him to think of it as battlefield conditions with a poor supply line.

Don't mean to sound callous but that's how one gets through some of this stuff. At least he's getting fresh food and not MREs.

No disrespect intended but isn't this, by definition, adaptation??
Adaption is continuous.....there has been new data and a vaccine! And the Navy seems to be adapting much more quickly here. All of my son‘s Navy Option classmates were vaccinated last month in preparation for cruises and training.......

Funny.....he said last night he’d rather have the MREs!

This lack of food is very normal; of the 10 people I know who went through OCS last year, they had the equivalent of what I would compare to a 8th grade school lunch who all felt was not sufficient enough, and all lost 15-20lb as the poster above mentioned

Sounds like good indoctrination and preparation for someday being downrange, with little more than MREs, a bare cot and the occasional warm shower. That’s what some of his future charges are dealing with at the moment.

Yes, unlike Navy, USMC didn't require vac for training. My DD has a NROTC-Marine Option friend that went to training this past week. Everyone except for 2 was vaccinated. Therefore the entire training contingent had to go into ROM.

Where did the friend of DD go for training?

Sorry, question not asked.
oh, ok, just curious. My son is a coyote at 29 Palms and they just finished a two month exercise with 3000 Marines, various US SOF personnel, and units from our allies. Not one person was asked about their vaccine status. Or went into ROM. He was able to call us Sunday when he was going on 48 hours without sleep and no food. Still with plenty in the tank though, fortunately, because the bombs, arty rounds, and 7.62 were impacting all over the desert.

On Sundays he calls it his Church of Steel.

Yes, my example was relating to NROTC-Marine Option. Summer Training. There you are introducing people from the outside into Big USMC.

Your son will be fine. Two weeks of quarantine will not degrade his athletic ability significantly. He can Push-ups, planks, or crunches in his room and have his roommate assist. As for the food, I feel you, quarantine food isn't the best but as others have mentioned, adapt and improvise. The Marine Corps will not let him starve but they will challenge him. I lost around 18 pounds when I went through and actually increased my pull-up count lol.

I'm putting things into perspective I guess by addressing the topic of the thread. College and initial training goes by fast and is is forgotten even quicker when bullets, bombs, and bandages come out. Plus, it is in the upper 90s and low 100s in the Mohave this week and it's still May.

There was a chin up bar inside when my son was there. He would do chins, laundry, and study at 3 or 4 in the morning.

Can they not receive any deliveries?
That is a big no no. The quarantine is extremely strict on the Candidates and ordering food is prohibited probably because they do not want infection coming in from the outside. Just a note, a few Navy recruits in Great Lakes were quarantined and they ordered McDonalds that came in via Uber Eats. They posted the video to Social Media and Chain of Command found out, since then all the recruits lost their cell-phone privileges and do not have cell phones to use in their two week quarantine. Now they stare at each other in their rooms and sing "Anchors Aweigh" to kill time. Your quarter pounder ain't worth it.
