Questions, Chatter, Congrats for the 2026 USAFA Appointment Thread

First and foremost, huge congrats to those appointed today! From the little I gather on this forum our future military officers/leaders are amazing and our country is in great shape.

Throwing this out- I’m sure some are in the same situation. DS has a great Plan B: 4-year AFROTC CLS (Commander Leadership Scholarship) at a private university. However, USAFA remains Plan A. I believe he has until May 31 to accept this scholarship. Is it normal to accept ROTC scholarships through Wings/Holmcenter, then turn it down if appointed or you receive USAFAPS or Civ Prep? My concern is a CLS is pretty selective and the AFROTC Det. may/will lose the scholarship if he accepts, then turns it down.

Sorry if I’m posting on the wrong thread… just thought some *still* waiting may be in the same predicament.

I talked to an AMC KC-135 pilot out of Edwards who went through the Academy who said she turned down her AFROTC scholarship and then later learned she didn't even have to turn it down. But that was years ago, and she graduated years before that.

Yes, it is not uncommon to accept an ROTC scholarship and then accept an appointment later on.

And as a long time lurker on these forums, I would like to point out there are a significant number of declines on the appointment thread. It’s not done until it’s done.
True. USAFA also is not done giving out appointments. This may have been the biggest wave but it is not the last one.

Did most appointees today submit their applications on November 1st or are there some who submitted Nov. 30 or even later?

My DS is in the same boat, except it's 4 year AFROTC Space Force. He will most likely go ahead and accept the AFROTC soon. USAFA is number one but we have not yet heard anything. Best of luck to your DS!

It seems my DS missed the Congressman’s office call last week as his phone never rang. We just got a notification for him to call the office !!!

We hope it is good news for him !!!
False alarm....:( It was to asked if he had committed to any academy yet ( he had an early offer from USNA ) and if he would like to have dinner with the congressman and other appointees before they depart. 2 appointees I think already for Air Force from our area...... one with a family-military connection so maybe USAFA did not use congressional nomination....the other we don't know....... he will just have to keep checking the portal. But I guess the first early rounds portals were updated before their office could call candidates....now they are letting the congressman know first....so we wait.

Fingers crossed for your son!
