Appointee Kit Q&A

For MMR: if both doses were before January 1st 2022, then a blood titer is required.
Please select an optionYes, I am vaccinated against MMR.No, I am NOT vaccinated against MMR.Positive Blood TiterHave you received two doses of the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) Vaccine? Correction to the Appointee Handbook: you do not need a blood titer if you have been previously immunized against MMR and have proof to that fact.

They updated MMR on website. No titer if two dose recorded. Finding polio in my area has turned into a pain though.
Our area won't do polio if you had a shot as a kit, the SA will. Same will one vax that it is military specific...cant remember which one. TB regular dr office can do the 3 day test

Hey I’m planning on getting the vaccines before I-day but can I submit the appointee kit without them and still not be required to get them on I-day so long as I have the proper paperwork and tests?

For polio vaccine..try googling “travel vaccines” to find a place that gives immunizations for people traveling outside of the country . I know there are free standing clinics and also some affiliated with hospitals. After many dead ends, that is where I was able to find a polio vaccine for my DS.

Here meningitis vax 160 , and the rest some where there too. He will get the ones he can then let the SA give him the rest that can be don when he shows up

Like @LTBob87 said. They have now changed this in the appointee kit. It is worth perusing each section of the kit occassionally. So far at least 3 small changes have been made since my ds started filling it out on April 4th. Nothing major but he will need one less vaccine booster.

My son has not had the hep A shots but has had hep B. It says the two hep A doses need to be 6 months apart so I am not sure how to meet that requirement. If he gets the first one in the next week or so will USAFA give him the second dose at the 6 month mark?

Hi everyone:
Is the only bank on the Academy base Arm Force Bank?
However, there is no branch around my area to open an account.
How do you handle this? Need to fill out the direct deposit in Kit.
Also concern no access to bank (no car in first year).
Thanks!

My son is keeping his local account at home and will have direct deposit sent there and has a debit card to use. We will make sure he has some cash to start out, but most places debit will be fine and I've heard cadets use PayPal/venmo to reimburse each other for any shared expenses. He can also get cash back at some places.

We will see how it goes and determine if he needs to open an additional account on base. I like the option that we can easily add money/transfer to his account from our local account at home, which wouldn't be an option with the Armed forces bank. You can also change the direct deposit information with the finance office once on base if you need to.

If u have a local cresit union open and account w them. Most of the credit unions honor the card to get cash w no fees. U can also open an navy fed crd union acc

I'm sure you (or he depending on age) can call and set up an account over the phone.

I haven't been to an actual bank location in years. DH and I have had USAA since our cadet days and now our kids do too. Super easy to transfer money and pay bills online and can get cash from any ATM. DS's USAA checking amd savings accounts just changed over now that he is 18 and he plans to get a USAA credit card before he leaves. He already has a debit card with his account.

I also have USAA because of my parents and it works great for this situation.

Wait so if I got my MMR vaccine when I was 5, I have to do a titer? This vaccine stuff is so confusing :/

Most kids get MMR at age 1 and then a 2nd dose between 2-5. From my understanding, if you've had 2 doses you don't need an additional booster or titer. There has been conflicting information and the handbook has been updated from the original.
