USNA Class of 2027 Waiting and Speculating

Her exam was late August, early September. She had to get waiver which was performed on 9/21. So I'm assuming they have been working through the backlog. I'm guessing you will hear in a few more weeks. Good luck!
Thanks! Her exams were late August too but the process was stalled bc DODmets needed more details from the docs so that took a few weeks. I hope you have a nomination coming soon!!

Lurker-no-more. Thank you for all of the many excellent posts that have answered many of our questions over the past year.

DD received her USNA Nomination from Senator Marco Rubio. [NASS 3, Inspire Program, CVW]

Wow!! Congratulations!!!🥳🥳

I have a question for the more experienced members. My DS received an email yesterday evening from the varsity sport coach that he is being recruited for, congratulating him on his appointment and asking if he was going to accept? He has and LOA, medical and nomination. But the status in the portal has not change from LOA to appointment.

Would a coach be notified ahead of the student? We are confused. He replied that when he gets the official offer, he will accept. But still not sure about this whole process. If anyone can shed some light on this, I wuld appreaciate it. Thanks.

Yes, in our experience the coach has advance notice. DD1 was told by the Navy coach a few days before her portal updated and DD2 was told by Coast Guard coach in advance also.

Congratulations to your son!
Thank you! I am always cautious about getting excited about good news until we actually see it on the portal!

Seems like there is a nice wave of good news coming in, and right before Thanksgiving - very exciting to hear! Sending congratulations and high fives!

Per my daughter the first nom interview "went well i think." Questions revolved around top 3 leadership qualities, greatest security threat to US and how you dealt with an ethical situation. Still waiting on scheduling with other MOCs.

My son had a nomination interview yesterday as well, he is a re-applicant so this is his second time at the rodeo. He is a freshman at a large state school an hour and a half away and made plans to ride the Amtrak train back home Saturday morning for the interview since he had to work Friday night near campus. The train stopped on the tracks about a half hour into the trip because a freight train ahead of them had a faulty car that had damaged the tracks. He sat on the train for an hour and then they told them the train ride was annulled and they were going backwards to the station they left from, and he told me I would need to go pick him up there. Then he called a half hour after that and said they weren’t going to be going back to the train station either because the track inspector had come and looked at the tracks behind them and said they were too damaged to use as well…so he was stuck on a train in the middle of nowhere and had a congressional interview to get to. He sent me a pin of where he was and we found a Dollar General store that was about a mile away from there, the plan was to get off the train and meet me at the Dollar General. The conductor told him they would prefer he stayed on the train though because it could be dangerous to get off (but there was no timeline being given of when they would be allowed off), so he just opened the train door and threw his suitcase out and jumped. Then the conductor waved at him and said “well we can’t keep you hostage, just stay away from the tracks”. He was then in the woods and didn’t know where to go but found a man with a bunch of dog kennels in the forest who told him where to go. Eventually he made it to the Dollar General and then the congressional interview just in time, fortunately he had signed up for the last interview slot of the day and says the interview seemed to go well.

I feel like we couldn't have made this story up though!

Awesome nom story - now I hope he gets appointed - so you can tell it often.

Wow. What a story. Good luck.

My daughter's biggest worry, besides the nervousness of the interview itself, was the technology. All our kids have been using Zoom exclusively. The MOC panel was using WebEx. Pro tip: If it's a virtual interivew, make sure you have the softward downloaded in plenty of time.

Sounds like a driven, resourceful, focused young man. Seems to have the makings of a successful mid and officer. Whatever it takes…

Another pro tip: Regardless of whether it is Zoom, Google Meet, MS Teams, WebEx, Skype or any other platform, if you downloaded it more than 24 hours ago, find the place where you can “check for updates,” install them, restart, This something I do in the hour before the scheduled call. These platforms are frequently updated, and if they are out of sync with your operating system, laptop drivers, etc., tech difficulties may ensue. I learned this when Zoom insisted I didn’t have a camera it could connect to right before a meeting, yet my camera showed it was perfectly fine. I clicked my profile photo in Zoom, checked for updates, realized I was 2 updates behind. Lesson learned.

If you have multiple video meeting apps on your laptop, be sure they are all turned off or closed, else they will battle for your camera. Another lesson learned. I worked remotely on laptops from 2000 on, usually using Skype for Business or Cisco WebEx, the earliest versions AND plugging in via a phone line before wifi came along.
