Happens every year. 1200+ people stuck in the same environment, bodies stressed and tired, rampant exposure to each other's sweat and yelling. Bound to be a hive of disease!!
I've read this very common during Plebe Summer. An occupational hazard.Happens every year. 1200+ people stuck in the same environment, bodies stressed and tired, rampant exposure to each other's sweat and yelling. Bound to be a hive of disease!!
DS asked for things to suck on like Jolly Ranchers, Cough Drops. Yes, very rough voice. Sickness abounds in PS. They are all together 24/7 and pushed to limits with very little sleep. It's part of the bonding I think.@severn Plebe Hack? Bronchitis kind of cough? Can they ask for meds from Brigade Medical? Can we send them meds?
Most don’t. Not uncommon at all.Question: How big of a deal is it to NOT have a personal swearing in ceremony? DS does not have a military family member able to travel,,,
Not even a deal of any kind at all. It’s mostly a photo opp. The majority will not have a personal. They’ve already signed the paperwork, and the public oath covers all bases.Question: How big of a deal is it to NOT have a personal swearing in ceremony? Candidate number is NOT your DOD number. I would therefore use social.Another form question, on the routine immunization from, it says to use DOD Id or Full SSN sponsor. Should I use my candidate number or my social security number? Thanks!
As I have been filling out the information, having the instructions pulled up on the screen, so I can read, reread, check, and recheck has been helpful for specific instructions on forms.Candidate number is NOT your DOD number. I would therefore use social.
“Do we use our address for all papers in the PTR or do we use a particular address at the Naval Academy?”
I seem to recall that there were instructions provided in the paperwork. Is this not the case? Idk, but check for instructions. My boys didn’t have questions I don’t recall.
There are no directions in terms of address other than for the SF-86 form where it specifically says to put the usna address for "where you live" but again, that is only for the sf-86. All other forms do not have those instructions. As I have been filling out the information, having the instructions pulled up on the screen, so I can read, reread, check, and recheck has been helpful for specific instructions on forms.
Also, on the home page of PTR, it says to ignore all DOD spaces unless you already are a dependent or service-connected
Thank you. Very happy to have found this thread. Quick question about Parent’s weekend. Are people other than parents allowed onto the Academy grounds during that weekend? And if so, how do we complete the process of getting them access? Do they simply bring their driver’s licenses to gain entry or will we need to do something ahead of time? Or will my daughter only be able to see them off base during town liberty? This is all new to us so really appreciate any insights. Thank you!!Appointees and supporting parents, here is a place to ask those burning questions which come up every year, and you are just not feeling Search mode.
Here’s a link to a vintage thread, which may still have some usable nuggets:

And go find the “Rollercoaster” series of threads, especially the plebe year one.
The yard is open to the public so anyone with proper ID can enter. PPW officially starts on Friday after Noon Formation. If I recall the Mids will have liberty until 2300. On Saturday morning they have a formal parade at about 0900 and they're released after the parade until 2359. They have liberty on Sunday until 1800.Quick question about Parent’s weekend. My DS’s father is an idiot.Parents, do not forgot that you fill out one item of paperwork to get your base car access so you can just roll onto the campus without having to go through the Gate 1 security building. On I-Day, if you have already submitted it, you will receive a paper pass that is good for the Plebe year, and then you can get the plastic card version later. Do this AFTER the current 1/C graduate! That way, your permanent card will not expire before your kid graduates!
Also, the Mid store will issue you a card that will allow you to shop there any time you visit the campus without your mid present. This can also be picked up during I-Day, or PPW.
(Being local, we actually got both the pass for site access and the Mid store card about two weeks later when there was much less of a crowd).

+100 to this! Also, the Mid store will issue you a card that will allow you to shop there any time you visit the campus without your mid present.
