Hi! My DD was offered waitlist for the CGAS program on 4/1. She accepted immediately, and today she received an email requesting she complete the DoDMERB medical exam. There was no time frame listed. Is there a time frame to complete this? Also, is this a good sign? Not sure what this means for her. Any advice is appreciated!

It’s not a negative sign. They’ve asked her to do this as a next step - probably because of the shrinking timeline to get this bit done. They want to know if she’s good to go medically sooner rather than later, if they have to go to the waitlist.

If they have asked her to do this, she can probably go to the DoDMETS site right now, follow the instructions for new user login, set up her profile and a new personal password, and get on with scheduling the exams. USCGA has probably downloaded her info to DoDMERB and initiated the med review process. DoDMERB is the DoD agency that handles the meets/does not meet military medical accession standards process for USCGA. DoDMETS is the civilian contractor which coordinates providers with the candidate and relays info to DoDMERB, the info clearinghouse. The candidate must call the providers assigned to schedule. This process can take longer than you think, especially if there are bumps in the road, so if your daughter wants this, she should jump on it, get it done, hopefully be found qualified and be ready for any call with an offer. The other good thing is DoDMERB exams are good for 2 years from exam date, so if she finds herself reapplying next year, this part is done.

And, if she hasn’t already, she should read everything in the left-side menu, doesn’t have to log in to do that:

And, if she hasn’t found this:

Good luck! And welcome new member of 24 minutes!

And, DoDMETS login and DoDMERB login - not the same - two different sites. She will get access to DoDMERB. As Q/DQ results occur.

The dates listed for CGA state that medical needs to be complete (including any required waivers) by 15 May, so move as quickly as you can to help her get those appointments scheduled. Based on your question, it sounds like she hasn't even started the DODMERB process? That probably means she missed the initial email (it often goes to spam) requesting that she start the process back when she first submitted her application.

Since this is for CGAS waitlist and not confirmed CGA appointment, I don’t think the 15 May is hard and fast to start the stomach churn going, but I do think we are agreed she needs to jump right into DoDMETS and get rolling.

Unless things have changed with the CGA application process in the last three years, this isn't necessarily true. CGA -- unlike WP, AFA, and USNA -- does not refer all applicants to DoDMERB.

True. They would not refer ALL applicants to DODMERB. But if they ended up offering her a CGAS waitlist spot, then they definitely considered her a competitive applicant. I would have thought that they would have asked any competitive applicants to start the DODMERB process to be sure they completed the medical process in time.

Thank you so much for this forum on CGAS waitlist. My DS was offered to be waitlisted and he accepted. There wasn’t any request for further Dodmerb. He completed it when originally applied to USGCA.
Anyone have any info on when they will start to decide on the waitlist candidates? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Last year all the people on the waitlist got an email on May 4th asking if they still wanted to be considered. My understanding is that the Academy waits until May 1st (Decision Day) to see how many (if any) may be pulled off.

Any idea how many kids from the waitlist are actually offered CGAS appointments?

It varies every year, sometimes drastically. They always offer more appointments than they have space for, knowing some people will decline. If more people decline than they anticipated, or if a larger number are not approved for medical waivers, then they will start pulling people from the waitlist.

Hello, anyone out there still on the CGAS waitlist? Has anyone heard anything?
It is unlikely anyone would be pulled from the waitlist yet. Those with appointments have until 1 May to accept them. In addition, some people have conditional offers and are still hoping for medical waivers. If anyone is going to be pulled from either the CGA or CGAS waitlists, it will usually happen throughout the month of May. Last year some were pulled as late as 31 May.

Hello again, it’s May 4, has anyone heard from CGAS waitlist?
Not sure if you're a first-timer but worrying this much doesn't help anyone or anything. Go do something fun and enjoy life rather than frantically worrying about something out of your control.

Dear anom, thank you for your wise advice. I reached out to the forum yesterday because I read in years past that waitlisted candidates were contacted on May 4th to confirm whether or not they wanted to remain on the waitlist or if they have decided to proceed to their plan B. My DS was at school and had JROTC until 6pm so I was curious if anyone had any news or updates. I assure you that I am enjoying my life and I don’t consider asking a question on the forum to be frantically worrying. If I have caused anyone any discomforT, I offer my deepest apologies. And yes I am a first timer😊, my DS is also my only child. Again, my apologies if I did something wrong here. Wishing all of your DS and DD the best of luck. 🤞🏻
