2028 State Nominations Thread

Thank you for posting this. The waiting is hard especially when hoping for a Colorado nomination for USAFA.
Yes, USAFA is definitely the most sought after here and waiting is terrible even though all college applications are a waiting game. I'm sure it's probably same for USNA in the DMV area. There are two other kids in my school also applying (although one is way more interested in USMA) from my school, so we're just waiting for the MoC Nominations to be released. Hope your son/daughter gets good news soon!

DS received a call from both TX senators with nomination to his first choice USNA. He let the second know he already had a nomination to his first choice and the staffer thanked him and said he would instead receive a no-letter so the nom could go to someone else. DS asked if it could be used for his second choice and was told “no,” they have a hard enough time filling all applicants first choices. He also told him not to be discouraged by the no-letter and reminded him he earned the nomination from this senator as well and only need one. I’m proud of him for being honest and transparent, and I told him so. But I can’t help wonder if he forfeit a chance to compete on two slates instead of one?

Thanks for sharing. DD is still waiting and hopeful for a TX nomination.

What day did he get the calls?

Yes, he did, but don’t forget, even if he doesn’t “win the slate” for the Senator’s nom, the SA can still go back and offer appointments to other fully qualified members on the slate. Those appointments get charged to nom sources they manage.

He did apply for the VP, yes?

Good.

If for some reason he is not offered an appointment, don’t let him have second thoughts about his decision to step back from the other slate. A candidate might have 5 noms and still not be offered an appointment.

Good stuff. Thank you!

Does LOA charge to congressional district slate ? DS and his classmate&friend both applied for USMA. While DS also applied for USNA but his friend only applied for USMA. To avoid competing the same slate for nomination, DS selected USNA as first and USMA as second but for VP nomination, the order is reversed. DS has an LOA form USMA and has both USMA and USNA nomination. He is worried that he might have taken the spot from his friend because his LOA.

My son received an appointment offer for USMA a couple weeks ago (about a week after receiving his Congressional nomination). He also had an LOA to West Point. A friend from his high school received his appointment offer to USMA last week. He did not have an LOA, but also (obviously) received a nomination from the same US Rep. Our Senators have not announced nominations that anyone's heard, yet. So, same high school, same rep, 2 appointment offers. It's a happy mystery.

My son has NROTC already -- so even if he does not get an appointment (i think he will) he can join the navy. But his friend has only one plan to USMA (he even went to SLE). I hope it does not affect his chance. It would be nice if they end up in the same USMA 2028 class !

Exact same scenario for my son's friend, and he's good to go! I think it's a matter of that whole candidate score 'thingy' and where they are on the NWL. But I'm definitely no expert, just happy it worked out!

DD checked her AFA application portal last night and saw "Illinois - Senator 82 Nomination received". She didn't receive an email or phone call but she did receive a letter from Senator Durbin stating that she did not get any nomintations from his office, so seems like to me she got the nomination from Senator Duckworth. Anybody else out there who got Senator 82 nomination?

Has anyone received anything from Rubio or FL 13 yet? It appears from prior years that Rubio doesn't notify either way?

I know some declines went out via USPS from Senator Duckworth’s office but we have not received anything from her yet (only a confirmation that his application was complete). He did receive congratulations letters from Senator Durbin & our congresswoman (USMMA) so we aren’t sweating the nom too much - just more curious 😬. I’m not sure if he’s checked his portal lately or if the USMMA portal would lisr both. I try not to ask too many questions about checking portals - and pretend to be the calm one 😂….

Conngratulations! So, he received 2 nominations for USMMA? I thought the different MOC offices coordinate with each so they wouldn't waste any nominations because you only need 1 nomination for appointment. Maybe, my understanding is wrong. I know what you mean about asking too many questions. I had to ask though after the rejection letter from Durbin. There's still a long way to go but keeping our fingers crossed.

If you have an LOA -- you only need one nomination. Otherwise, you have to compete in different slates, more nominations means more chance to compete. For example you lose to someone at Rep's nomination slate, you can still compete in your senator nomination slates

Does Duckworth do interviews? We are still waiting...
