Another note..SAP is Service Academy Prep. Marion Military Institute is a SAP Military Junior College. DS Luke spoke with his FFR several times indicating that if he was not to receive am appointment, he wanted to be considered for the SAP Program. I knew little about it. Luke raised his SAT Verbal from 580 to 670. A strategy could be for Paul to contact his FFR and discuss the SAP Program if he wants to try that strategy. One year ago right now, DS was ready to go to Norwich on a full Army ROTC scholarship and study civil engineering when the SAP offer was made. Things can change quickly. Paul is a exceptional young man. He will be successful with the direction he goes >> It is just a roller coaster getting there. Take Care, Alan

Was away on vacation last week. Both DS's had the same Spring Break week and we went to FL. My older DS applied to USNA, was on NWL and fully qualified. No appointment. 2100 combined SAT's, All State wrestler,
Eagle Scout, Student Council VP and all the other accolades these nominated candidates have. He was bummed not to get into Tufts either. He narrowed it down to Northeastern and UMass Amherst Honors. He is graduating UMass this year with two degrees >> Political Science and Theater (one of those athletes who does theater too as he wrestled at UMass too) and did it in three years. He is extremely happy with his choice of UMass Amherst. They just built a whole new Commonwealth Honors Complex and my older DS is an RA in one of the dorms. From a personal experience ... UMass Commonwealth Honors Program is excellent and not a big hit on the checkbook.

SAP= service academy prep?... He would but I do not think he is a candidate already being 3Q? if this is what you meant?

Not familiar with SAP. Study abroad program? It has been a disappointing few weeks, Paul is waitlisted everywhere.. USMA waitlisted, Ohio State waitlisted, RPI waitlisted, WPI priority waitlisted, BU waitlisted, ROTC scholarships pending sequestrations BS. Got into Umass Honors college at Amherst and Lowell... Still waiting on USAFA.. but assume waitlisted... no TWE from any one yet... Paul is staying positive... schools he should be hitting home runs at he is getting waitlisted for... go figure...

I mentioned to my DS over the weekend about your DS. He said that if your DS received nominations from both Massachusetts Senators, that your DS' application profile must be very strong. I would agree. I can understand the angst of the wait. Best Wishes.

That profile certainly does not look "out of consideration" ! Has your DS contacted the West Point gymnastics coach. One of my DS's classmates is a first year at USNA and on the gymnastics squad. That probably helped him. Use any benefit possible. I think there is another round of hundreds of appointments to go out soon. If you want to talk on the phone my cell is 781-367-7332 Alan Beaulieu. No problem if I do not get a call. I am just hoping the best for you, your DS, and your family. Most people have no idea all that is involved with an application to the Armed Forces academies.

My DS was awarded the AOG SAP because he knew his Verbal SAT was below average of appointed cadets. He indicated (politely, several times) to his Field Force Representative that if he were not to be given an appointment in 2013, he absolutely wanted to be considered for the SAP Program and be able to be in the running for an appointment in 2014. His absolute back up was a full ROTC to Norwich. He plans on majoring in Civil Engineering. He still asks for Lego's for Christmas. Your DS may want to talk to his Field Force Representative if he wants to be considered for this back up program.

We will keep our fingers crossed for you and your DS ! If he received nominations from all the MA Congressmen that he could, that speaks volumes. >>> Just for comparisons My DS's stats >> 3.75 at Reading High, Class President, Varsity Wrestler 3 years, Eagle Scout, Middlesex League Principals Award for Service, Integrity, Leadership and Social Conscience, SAT Math 700, Verbal 670 (was 580 before took Verbal SAT Prep at MMI, AP US History -5, AP Calculus AB-5, 300 hours Community Service 2012-2013, National Honor Society Officer, CFA -Throw 63'7", 18 Pull, 95 sit, 75 push, 5:26 mile, 4.0 at MMI-President's List, promoted to Executive Officer (2nd in Command) of Delta Company (80 cadets) at MMI I am certain that your DS is similarly accomplished. Thank you for the note. Congratulations on your DS getting nominations from MA-06 and both MA Senators. He is obviously very qualified. We understand the angst with the waiting. My DS was a just miss last year >> and offered the AOG opportunity and he chose MMI. He was appreciative of the opportunity and did very well there. DS also had a MA Senator nomination and a ROTC nomination, so it is difficult to know which nomination was used for his appointment. We have been told that if USMA wants you, they will work for the appointment. We are from Reading. It would be nice to meet other USMA appointments. Please keep us posted. Our DS received a call from Congressman Tierney's office on a Thursday evening, and Senator Warren's office on a Friday evening, and then got the BFE on Saturday. I hope your DS hears in the affirmative soon.
