USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

May I respectfully suggest if you truly aspire to be a Marine, you invest the time in capitalizing the M. That is their proper name. Everywhere. Even when you are dreaming. That is their culture and their superpower, to be Marine to the last cell.

Get in the mood by reading some of GEN Mattis’ quotes:

Then, improve your mind by checking out his reading list:

And the Marines always have the best branding and recruiting slogans and campaigns. They know exactly who they are and who they want.
Yes ma'am:muscles2::muscles2:

Might want to capitalize Ma'am considering, may as well start now. Just a lil heads up. EYEBALLS! We Marines are stict about many things. Sir, Ma'am, with a strict adherence to rank and billets, especially in the rear. NEVER call a Staff NCO a 'sarnt. That dog don't hunt. Might as well start learning Navy/USMC terminology and rank structure now while you're at it, if you haven't already. Being a Marine, I , We can say you're on your way, but you're not a Devil yet.

And while we might call Navy junior officers Mr. or Ms., never never Marine officers.

What a delightful tangent, if I say so myself, as a brief distraction from thread topic.

Uncle Sam's Misguided Children is just a big 'ol fun bunch and not for the faint hearted. LOL I'm happy you said something Ma'am. Might as well get the brain housing group primed now, before all the screaming and yelling starts. LOL

We all have the stories of our children's journeys, and they are are incredible and interesting. But the last time I checked you don't get to dictate my rights.

Well my DS got declined 2 days ago and I thought he was going to simply proceed with plan B but he is now even more committed to go to his accepted college and re-apply to USNA.!

He had a 3.9 GPA, 1350 SAT and attended the Summer Seminar, 1 Nom of MOC.

What can he do to strengthen his application for next year Class of 2029

Thinking about it, that application goes in about just 7-8 months from now..

Thank you
My son just got TD after his second attempt. He too, immediately reapplied and literally did EVERYTHING that was suggested both on here and from his meeting with a USNA admissions counselor last summer. Please read my old posts and look around on here; lots of super information to help his journey that I sincerely hope ends in an appointment to USNA. My son went from 1350 to 1510; 31 to 33; maxed CFA except run, did NROTC as a college programmer and got As and did tons volunteer work and activities with his unit; did great at NSI too; got two noms (MOC and NROTC). It’s just such a hard thing to attain. Best of luck and don’t give up the ship!:) PM me if you wanted some super detailed info. Oh and I highly recommend applying to USMMA next year; it’s a great place and we are hoping for an appointment there for my son. Please say a little prayer for him!:) Good luck and Go NAVY!!:)

Yes Sir! :thumb::thumb:

sometimes i say "to serve my country" as a way to be "professional" but in reality it's because becoming a marine, enlisted or officer, is hella cool
Well Blinkus if you really are committed to becoming a Marine I (and maybe @ARMARINE03 and @Capt MJ can corroborate) would HIGHLY recommend picking up wrestling. They are one of the highest recruited demographics out of highschool and for good reason.

3 Time NCAA Champion and Olympic World Champion (Without anyone scoring A POINT ON HIM) Dan Gable once said that once you've wrestled, everything in life is easy. It seriously is one of the best things you can do to get that Marine Mindset and Mental Fortitude

The only thing he’s missing is a giant box of crayons

Thank you so much and good luck to your son.
My DS wants to give it everything he has and apply one more time!!

One question is , after HS and one semester into college, where would my DS get recommendations from since he is already done with HS. His college professors will have only known him for a few months in before writing the recs...

Since we’re talking wrestling and Marines, I’ll leave this here:

Had the honor of meeting his parents during my DS’s time wrestling.

College professor here, at a mid-sized flagship state university. Most of my sections have 40-60 students, though occasionally I have sections of more than 120. Each year, I get several requests for a reco letter for grad school.

I say yes only to students who've actually made an effort to engage with me outside of class. I have regular office hours. I'm also available by appointment. If a student comes to my office to discuss the subject matter, review exams, talk about assignments -- if they do this genuinely -- then I know they're someone worth recommending. Their grades may not be top-notch, but they're still making an effort to learn more deeply and broadly.

On the other hand, I say no to students who make no effort to engage outside of class -- even if they earned a stellar grade. I simply don't know them beyond a score/grade, so I have very little basis for a meaningful recommendation.

Your DS should step forward early on. Be a positive presence in class. Be a positive presence in the professor's office. Be genuine. Be direct. (We can sniff a brown-noser from a mile away.) We want to help students go higher and further, but we'll only do so if we can be credible about it.

Brilliant response ... should be required reading!
